To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. CLARK, citizen of the United 'States, and resident of Singac, in the county of Passaic and State of New J ersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pie- Handlers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the handling of pics in bakeries, and has for its objects, the putting of one or more pies in a bakers oven or removing them when baked, and regulating the handler for different sizes of pie pans.

This invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which slmilar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

The device consists of a body 3 in which slides 6 are secured, a handle 2 in which the slides move, said handle supporting the body 3 through the slides 6.

On the body, which consists of two pieces 3 one on each side of the handle, there are strips l secured to the under outer edge of each of the two body parts 3.

The strips 4 are curved at a point about half way up the body piece so as to fulcrum on this point of the curve or bend, so as to lift the pans free in putting them in or in taking them out of the oven.

The device slides on the strips 4 at the point of bend in moving the device.

The slides consist of pieces 6 w1th a portion part way along the length cut out and a rack 7 secured to said pieces by screws or otherwise.

The one end of the rack 7 has a raised portion 18 to limit the movement of the pinion gear in the rack; and thus prevent the slides from coming out of the handle 2.

Meshing in each pair of the slides 6 there is a gear 8 on a stud 9 which revolves in a hole in the handle.

On top of this stud there is a small bevel gear 10 meshing in another one 11 on a rod or shaft 13.

The shaft or rod 13 has two bevels l1 and 12 on it which operates at the same time moving each pair of studs at once.

The shaft 13 is secured to the one end of the handle 2 by bearings 14: in which it turns.

The other end of the handle from the 0&- set portion is hollow and through this hole the shaft 13 is continued to the extreme end of the handle, at which point on the shaft a graduated hand wheel 15 is'secured.

On the end of the handle where this wheel 15 is there is a spring 17 which enters notches 16 in the circumference of the wheel, to hold the pie handling portion to the desired width.

When it is desired to handle pies of a certain size the wheel 15 is turned to the notch desired, thus revolving the shaft 13, turning the bevels 11 and 12 and the studs 9 thus turning the gear pinions 8 engaging the racks 7 widening or narrowing the slides 6 and the body 3 secured to the said slides, thus making the strips 4: .fit the desired size of pie pans.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
