Description

UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE.
JASPER BLACKBQRN, 0F WEBSTER GRUVES. MISSOURI.
CABLE-HANGER.
Application fied March 11, 1918.
To o?! whom it may ron/erm Be it known that I, Jasmin Bint-Kimura, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Webster Groves, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cable-Hangers, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exaet description, referenre being had to the accon'ipanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cable haligers` and has for its special objet-t the vonstruriion of :L hanger made out of a Continuous piero ol' flat spring material such as tlat wire. and which hanger Can be readily applied to and removed from a messenger wire"`y by hand, and it also may be applied over an existing cable.
ln the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side View of the same when applied to a messenger Wire.
Fig. 3 is a side View ofthe same being up plied to a messenger wire.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view ot' the hanger applied to the messenger wire. and
Fig. 5 is a sectional View taken on a line 5 5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, 6 indicates the body of the cable hanger which forms the cable supporting seat when the hanger is in *use and 7 and 8 indicate the hanger arms which are formed integrally with the seat 6, and all being formed out of a strip of resilient material or spring Wire.
The amis Tand 8 are divergent or spread apart so that `the hanger may be applied over an existing cable Without spreading them apart, and also to Widely separate the suspension hooks so as to give increased stability to the hanger.
The arm 8 is Provided on its end with a hook 9 and the arm 7 is provided on its terminal portion with a circular or se1nicylindrical messenger seat 10, projecting from which seat 1s an extension v11, the extension 11 forming a su porting hook for one side of the hanger, t e messenger seat 10 and `the extension 11 all being formed integralffwith the arm 7 by rst. bendingr the arm and forming a bend or shoulder at 12, then forming the circular messenger receiv- Specication of Letters Patent.

ing seat l0, then bending or forming the portion or extension ll downwardly.
It will be observed that the inner edge of the extension ll and the shoulder 12 form a tapered opening 13, in top lan. View (see Fig. 4), through which in t e application of or removal of the hanger from the messenger, the messenger wire passes, and in order to apply the hanger it is held in position as illustrated in Fig. 3, first passing the extended portion ll over the messenger and then changing the position of the hanger so that the extension occupies a position along the side of the messenger and musing the seat l0 to rome in contact with the botn tom and sides of the messenger wire. and then by an upward pressure on the hmly of the hanger the hook 9 is brought ki engage with the messenger.
When the hanger has been a lied the resilienry of the hanger or more si. e iirally speaking the reaction of the resilientyF will cause the seat 10 and the extension ll to iirmly grip the messenger wire and prevent it from weeping.
The spe-sil@ improvements of this inven-v tion reside in Constructing a hanger out of a flat piece of resilient` spring material auch as spring wire and providing one arm o the hanger with a circular messenger reoe ing seat to partially embraoe the messenger vire and providing the seat with an extension, the inner edge of the extension forming with an opposing edge or shoulder of the seat a tapered passageway or throat thrtaigh which the messenger passes when the hanger is applied to or removed from a messenger Wire.
It will further be observed that the inner edge of the extension 11 projects diagonally across the axis of the messenger.
In the forni shown the inner edge of the extension '11 is formed by cutting olf one corner of a strip of material.
It Will further be observed that the axis of the semi-circular seat 10 when the hanger is not in use is inclined outwardly and downwardly.
The semi-Circular seat 10 is of considerably greater width than the thickness ofthe material, and if extended would formkshbstantially a true cylindrical body the tixis of which as previously pointed out, iwvhen the hanger is not in use, projects outwardly in an inclined position, and when the hanger I rlnnn nz:
