Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoF.
WILLIAM F. YOUNG, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
lMPROVENlENT IN CLEARING HAT-BODIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,781, dated August 20, 1872.
SPEQIFICATION.
I, WILLIAIVI F. YOUNG, of the city of Buffalo, county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented a certain Process for Clearing 'Hat-Bodies for making cassimere hats, of
which the following is a specification:
First, give the body the required color and stiflen with shellac in the usual manner; second,
acid to the quart. Rinse with clean water;
then slip the block and hang the shell up to dry. Finish the same as any cassimere hat.
By this process of clearing a body on the block a hat may be made of a body from onethird to one-half lighter than by any other known method, thereby effecting a saving of a large amount of stock, and at the same time adding to the comfort and beauty of the finished hat.
I do not claim the use of ammonia and sulphuric acid, or any alkali or acid by which hatbodies may be cleared. V
WVhat I claim as my invention is The process of clearing a hat-body on the .block, substantially as described.
