WILLIAM C. HUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
ILLUSTRATIVE PHONOG To all whom t may concern:
'B' it known'that I, WILLIAM C. Huss, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident --oit' lCincinnati, in the county of Hamilton andl State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Illustrative Plionographs, of whichy the following is a speciication. y v
An object of my' invention is to produce a phonograph in which the ysubject of the record to be played may be illustrated in panoramic picture form and in which the scenesor other pictures sodisplayed occur -synchronously with the parts of the record corresponding thereto.
This and other objects are attained in the device described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an illustrative phonograph embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken I on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. `3 is a ,fragmental sectional elevation Fig. 4 is a fragmental sectional elevation taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
My improved construction consistsof a cabinet 5 havin the usual sound amplifying chamber 6 c osed by a grille 7 adjacent to which is a phonograph mechanism which is accessible for manipulation by raising a lid 8 which closes the cabinet. Beneath the grille is'an opening 9 designed as a sight o enin for pictures to-be displayed theret roug lin the drawin 1 have shown rthis opening as being forme in a front board 10 which forms a part of a skeleton drawer 1l, the bottom 12 of which slides within the cabinetin the position shown. The bottom is rovided with a series of rollers 13 upon which a picture bearing sheet or strip 14 is ada ted to travel. The rollers are located at eac side of the opening 9'in front board 10, so that the lpicture on the strip will be' i .presented to the opening for viewing it theretlnrough.l Back of rollers 13 `I have provided a standard 15 upon which a spool 16 containing the' rolled 'up picture to be displayed, is removably mounted. Adyacent to this standard and in position to be enga ed by the end of the phonographturn tab e shaft 17, 1 have ,provided a spool 18' specification of Letters Patent.

upon which the picture is Wound after it has passed from the spool 16 and across opening 9.. The upper end of spool 18 is provided preferably with a cone shaped aperture in which the cone shaped end of shaft 17 engages, so that the spool may be rotated upon the rotation of shaft 17, thus causing the pictures upon the strip to be displayed simultaneously with the playing of therecord on the phonograph turn table, the pictures on the strip being so arranged that the subjects thereon correspond with the subject of the record and are displayed in synchronism'therewith. Above the spools and operatively connected with shaft 17 in such a manner that the shaft will be raised upon its operation, is a lever 19 pivotally mounted on a bracket 20 extending from the inside of the cabinet, a handle 21 being connected with thel lever for lifting the shaft at the time the skeleton drawer is removed for the purpose of changing the picture to be displayed. In Order that the picture may be properly illuminated, I have provided a bracket 22 at the rear lof bottom 12 of the drawer, so that a light 23 may be mounted The end of spool 16 may be sor squaredfor the reception of a crank to acilitate the rewinding of the picture after it has been displayed.
Although I have shown and described my invention as having a drawer adapted to be withdrawn through the front of the cabinet, it is obvious that other arrangements `may be made to render the spools of the picture bearing strip accessible, that other than the suggested means for rewinding the strip may be provided, that any suitable illuminatin means may be provided, and that the picture bearing strip may be detachably connected with the phonograph mechanism for operation therewith in any ico display mechanism'located in the drawer, a In testimony whereof, I have hereunto picture-bearin strip detachably connected subscribed my name this 30th day of April v 7 with the mec anism and adapted to have 1918. the pictures thereon displayed successively WILLIAM C. HUSS. 5 through the sight opening upon operation Witnesses-z of the mechanism, and means adapted to W. THORNTON BOGERT,
connect and disconnect the mechanisms. WALTER F. MURRAY.
