L. w. PENNOCKQ TABLE LEAF COMBINATION. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 17, I917. RENEWED FEB. 24,1919.

TABLE-LEAF COMBINATION.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 17, 19119,
Application filed November 17,1917, Serial No. 202,518. Renewed February 24, 1919. Serial No. 278,939.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEwIs W. PENNOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahogaan'd State of Ohio, have invented a new and use-' consists of the novel features herein shown,
described, and claimed.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective of a library table equipped with a set of folding leaves shown in their resting place within easy access for use, parts of table being broken away to show detail.
Fig. 2 is a perspective of folding leaf, illustrating principle of attaching to pulled out slide rests.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary underside view of table top with a leaf attached 'to pulled out slide rests and metal catch from top locked to leaf near center edge of table top.
Fig. 4 is a larger view of the metal catch which locks the leaf to table top.
Filr. 5 is a fragmentary view of metal angle p ate of leaf and mortised angle receptacle in slide rest to receive angle plate projection.
Fig. 6 is a cross end view of pulled out slide rest showing position of angle plate projection in mortised angle of slide rest when leaf is attached, end of rest being broken away.
My table leaves are especially intended for use with an ordinary library table. The flat top 1 is mounted on legs 2. The upper ends of legs 2 are connected by pieces 3 and 5 and 6 below the ends of top 1, the lower parts of legs 2 are connected by pieces 4 and 6 below ends of top 1, the upper parts of legs 2 and pieces 8 and 6 being attached to under part ends of top 1 and lower parts of legs 2 and pieces 4 and 6 being connected by shelf 7. a
My folding table leaves are intended f0 use on either or both sides of table top, being interchangeable.
The details of my table leaves, metal plate locks, mortised slide rests for leaves, the position and location of folded leaves within body of table, when out of use, are as follows: A folding leaf consists of two main pieces 8 and 9, hinged together at center edges 10, which allow leaf to be extended to full length of two main pieces 8 and 9, and the approximate length of table top for which intended as Fig. 3, and which can be folded together as in Fig. 1. Attached to under part of main pieces 8 and 9 and running lengthwise of the leaf are two metal angle plates 11 and 12, whose angles project outward and away from center of leaf 10, and at an angle of about 45 as shown in Figs. 2 and 5 and 6; apertures 13 and 14 are provided in under side of leaf so that when leaf is closed the projections of angle plates 11 and 12 will enter to allow close contact of main pieces 8 and 9. The metal angle plates 11 and 12 are on opposite sides of the line 4-4 as shown in Fig. 3 to pass when closing leaf.
The slide rests 15 and 16 provided for the leaf to lock to and rest on for use, run in guides, and are limited in their outward pull in cross direction from table top edge by stops beneath top 1 on the line 3-3 as shown in Fig. 3 so that, the mortised angles 17 and 18 in slide rests are in exact position to receive angle projections 11 and 12 of leaf as shown in Fig. 2.
The leaf locks to pulled out slide rests 15 and 16 by laying leaf ends 19 on rests with center 10 of leaf raised above top 1 as shown in Fig. 2, and allowing center of leaf 10 to lower by gravity, the ends of leaf 19 extending outward and upward as center 10 lowers and to full length of leaf and to the extent and limit that angle plate projections 11 and 12 of leaf enter mortised angle notches 17 and 18 of slide rests as in Fig. 6; A metal catch Fig. 4 is attached to under side of table top 1 as in Fig. 3 so that when leaf is attached to sliderests 15 and 16, said catch is swung outward in an arcuate path and the slot 20 engages set screw 21 in under part of leafand acts as support to leaf and also locks leaf rigid to table top 1 as Fig. 4.
When not in use the leaves are folded and placed on a shelf within body of table as Fig. 1. The folded leaves are placed in upright position mnning in lengthwise direction and beneath table top 1, at a distance of three feet or less from top 1.
I claim:
A table leaf combination comprising folding table leaves hinged at their'ee'n'teredg'es" and adapted to be closed shut and placed at rest within the body of a table and adapted to be opened and attachedto table top for use; angle plates attached to under sides of folding leaves, the angle projections of which point away from leaf bodies at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees; 15
from extended table leaves; notched plate 20 catches operating on pivots from and beneatli table top and adapted to swing outward and engage set screws in under part of attached table leaves.
