Be it known that I, I-IowAnD M. DUDLEY, a citizen of the United States', residing lin the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fabric-Treating Machines, of which the following lis a full, clear, and exact specification.
The device of my invention relates to fab; ric treating machines and refers particularly to machines suitable for steaming fabric rolls.
In the treatment of fabrics, it is sometimes essential that they be dyed, steamed or treated with lair and one of the objects of my invention is a device in which any, or all, of these results may be accomplished.
My device is particularly `suitable for the steaming of wound fabric rolls and especially the treatment of the fabric by steamk under pressure.
In the particular device of'my invention, the fabric is wound upon a hollow foi-aminous reel and the fabric maintained thereon Y by means of a particular construction of mechanism whereby it will be retained in an undisturbed condition during the steaming operation. v
rlhe particular construction of the foraminous reel and its various lparts as disclosed by my invention, allows of a uniform treatment of the fabric reel, thus producing uniform and even results.
My device is also adapted to the treatment of fabric rolls of varying widths and its use is therefore considerably extended.
In the particular form of the device of my invention las shown in the accompanying drawings, similar parts are designated by similar numerals Figure 1 is a vertical cross-section of one form of my device.

Upon the outer faces of each of the members 30 is a series of upwardly extended arms 50,l v50` having an opening therein,
through which there passes a bar 51 with the cross-head 52. The inwardly extended end 53 of each of these bars is threaded .to mesh with the right and left threaded turnbuckle 54.
The blades,or plates, 46, 46 are comprised of two members, offset at their inner ends and slidable over each other, a springl 115 tendin'gfto distance the two members from eachother.
In order to bind the blades 46, 46 upon the fabric roll, there are employed two annu,-

The member 83 is in abutment with the non-revoluble pipe 86 by means of the bushing 87, the pipe 86 being connected to a source of liquid, air or steam.
The standard 85` has a centrally threaded` opening 88 into which is threaded the bar 89 revoluble within the bearings 9.0 and.91. A handle 92 fixedlyattachcd to the shaft 89- allows the ready revolution thereof and the,

Steam is then passed through the pipes 8G and '72 into' Vthe interior of the reel, while the latter is revolved, the steam passing through the foraminous portion of the reel, the fabric roll and the foraminous cover.
The pipe system S3, S3, shown in Fig. l, may be readily dispensed with by substituting the closed end 95 shown in Fig. 4.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number or arrangement of parts as described and shown, all of which may be varied without going beyond the scope of my invention as described and claimed.
What I claim is:
1. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel, means for revolving the reel, means whereby a portion of the openings of the foraminous reel may be closed whereby all of the steam introduced into the reel will pass through the fabric roll, a foraminous cover, means for pressing the cover upon the fabric roll maintaining it in position, and means for passing steam into the reel.
2. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel comprising a series of spaced parallel blades, means for revolving the reel, means whereby a portion of the openings of the foraminous reel may be closed whereby all of the steam introduced into the reel will pass through the fabric roll, a foraminous cover, means for pressing the cover upon the fabric roll maintaining it in position, and means for passing steam into the reel.
3. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel comprising a series of spaced parallel blades, means for revolving the reel, means whereby a portion of the openings of the foraminous reel may be closed whereby all of the steam introduced into the reel will. pass through the fabric roll, a foraminous cover comprising a series of spaced parallel blades, means for pressing the cover upon the fabric roll maintaining it in position, and means for passing steam into the reel.
4. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel, means for revolving the reel, means whereby a portion of the openings of the foraminous reel may be closed, al foraminous cover, means for pressing the Cover upon the fabric roll maintaining it in position, imperforate means compressible against the ends of the VVV*fabric roll and means for forcing steam into the reel and through the fabric roll.
5. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel comprising a series of spaced parallel plates, means for revolving the reel, means whereby a portion of the' openings of the foraminous reel may be closed, a foraminous cover, means for pressing the cover upon the fabric rollfrinaintaining it in position, imperforate means compressible against the ends of the fabric .rollv and means for forcing steamvinto y the reel and through the fabric roll.
6. In a fabric treating machine, inv combination, a revoluble foraminous reel com'- prising a series of spaced parallel blades, means for revolving the reel, means whereby a portion of the openings of the foraminous reel may be closed, a foraminous cover comprising a series of spaced parallel blades, means for pressing the cover upon the fabric -roll maintaining it in position, imperforate means compressible against the ends of the fabric roll and means for forcing steam into the reel and through the fabric roll.
7. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel, means for revolving` the reel, means whereby a portion of the openings of the foraminous reel may be closed, a foraminous cover, means for pressing the cover upon the fabric roll maintaining it in position, imperforate means compressible against thev ends of the fabric roll, an imperforate cylindrical member parallel to and within the reel spaced from the walls thereof and means for forcing steam into the reel and through the fabric roll.
8. In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel, means for revolving the reel, means slidable over the reel capable of abutting upon the edge of a fabric roll wound upon the reel, closing the openings of the reel exterior of the slidable members, a foraminous cover placeable around the fabric roll, means for forcing the cover upon the fabric roll maintaining it in position, means for forcing steam from within the reel through the fabric roll and means for removing condensed steam.

In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel, means for revolving the reel, means slidable over the reel capable of abutting upon the edge of a fabric roll wound upon the reel, closing the openings of the reel exterior of the slidable members, a series of parallel spaced bars carried by the slidable members, means for longitudinally pressing the bars carried by the slidable members, means for pressing the bars upon the fabric roll maintaining them in position, means for maintaining a tight joint between the reel and the slidable members and means for forcing steam through the reel and the fabric rolls.

In a fabric treating machine, in combination, a revoluble foraminous reel, means for revolving the reel, means slidable over the reel capable of abutting upon the edge of a fabric roll wound upon the reel, closing cylindrical Ymember parallel to and within the openings of the reel exterior of the slidthe reely spaced from' the walls thereof and 10 able members, a series of parallelspaced means for forcing steam through the reel bars carried by the slidable members, means and the fabric roll. v
