Use with Wigglers; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and e xact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in theart to which appertains to make and usethe same.
My inventionrelates to bell crank levers and supports for use with wigglers.
One object of myinvention is to provide a simple, cheap and eflective bell cranklever for use wlth wlgglers whlch can form an article of commerce and be sold for use with existing wigglers or can be furnished as an appurtenance with new wigglers.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide a bell crank lever and support therefor for use with wigglers which shall have a limited amplitude of swing so that it may be readily appliedto the wiggler.
A further object of my invention is to provide a bell crank lever and support for use with wigglers, thesupport being so arranged that it may be readily adapted for use with manytypes of wigglers.
In carrying out my invention, I make use of the instrumentalities illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a wiggler with my improved bell crank lever and support secured thereon.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the bell crank lever and support shown in Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in said figure.
Fig. 3 is a section along the line 3-3 in Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 4 is a view of the parts shown in Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrow #1 in said figure.
In the drawings represents a wiggler having a dial 11 over which the pointer 12 is moved by suitable mechanism, the latter being actuated by the operating pin 13 which is the terminus of a rod that slides through the sleeve 14..
The sleeve 14: terminates in the taper 15 which fits snugly within the taper hole 16 in the interior of the bushing 17 The bushing 17 is preferably tapered upon the outside and fits snugly within a taper hole 18 formed in the support 19. The collar portion of the support 19 surrounding the taper hole 18 may be tapered in shape, as
shown in the drawings, or may be of any approved shape.
Formed integrally with the collar portion 20 are ears 21-2'1 between whichis the slot 22 which extends to the taper hole 18. A pintle 23 is secured in a suitable hole provided near .the'ends of the ears 2121, and
in the slot 22 and there is revolubly mounted upon the pintle 23 the bell cranklever 24L.
The bell crank lever 2 1 is provided with a rounded nose 25 for application to the work, said nose being formed at the outer extremity of the arm 26. The lever 21 is also provided with a finger 27 which is shaped and located to contact with the operating pin 13, as shown in Fig. 1. The lever 24 is also provided with a stopping arm'28 which is shaped and located to strike the bushing 17.
The manner of use and operation of my improved be1lcrank lever and support is as follows The taper hole 16 is to be placed over the taper 15 of the sleeve 14: and pressed in in order to secure the support 19 upon the sleeve 1 1. By means of any suitable clamping arrangement, the wiggler 10 is secured upon the tool with which it is to be used and the nose 25 brought into contact with the work which is to be trued. The work being then moved, it is evident that inequalities in the location of the outer surface of said work will cause the nose 25 to vibrate, it being understood that the operating pin 13 is normally pressed toward the left, (see F 1), by a spring forming part of the wiggler, which is no part of my present 1. vention. The inequalities in the location of the exterior surface of the work will be indicated by the position to which the pointer 12 is moved and the work can be shifted until the inequalities are entirely removed or reduced to any satisfactory degree.
It is'obvious that during certain operations considerable stress may come upon the nose 25 in the direction of the arrows pointing toward the dotted line 3-3 in Fig. 2 or in the opposite direction, and that said stress will tend to move said nose either upwardly or downwardly (as shown in Fig. 2). For the purpose of resisting these stresses, the arm 28 is arranged for a sliding fit within the slot 22.
Referring to Fig. 3, it is evident that if the lever 24 revolves in a clock-wise direction, its motion will be limited in extent by the contact of the operating finger 27 with the left-hand end of the b-usl-iing l7 and that if said lever moves in a counter clock-Wise direction, its motion Will be limited by contact of the arm 28 With the outer surface of the bushing 17 ;-,consequently, the motion of said lever is limited in both directions and when removed from the Wiggl'er 10, said lever is always ready for immediate application to said iggler Without any preceding adjustment of said -lever. It is also evident that I may'provide bushings such as 17 having an exterior shaped to fit the taper hole 18 in the body 20 and having interior taper holes 160i various sizes to suit the tapers 15 on a large number of wigglers; consequently, iny in'lproiiefi bell cranklever is suitable for use with Wigglers of many kinds.
