COTTON-PICKING- DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 3, 1919.
Application filed February 1, 1918. Serial N 0. 215,530.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMns H. O. Bore, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Oklahoma, county of Oklahoma, and- State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cotton- Picking Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cotton picking devices, and more particularly to a pneumatic cotton picking device of the character shown and described in my United States Patents, 1,239,343, issued September 4, 1917, Number 1,253,774, issued January 15, 1918.
The principal object of my present invention is to further improve and simplify my said cotton picking device. I accomplish this improvement by combining my fan and ball bearing mechanism, and by simplifying the construction and arrangement of the parts of the casing, whereby said casing and the mechanisms therein are more easily assembled for use.
In order to more fully explain said invention, I have illustrated a practical embodiment thereof on the accompanying sheet of drawings, which I will now describe. In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a top plan View thereof with parts shown in horizontal section on line 1'1, and line 44, of Fig. 2;
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved cotton picking device; and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, sections being shown on lines 22, 33, and 44, of Fig. 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawings, my improved cotton picking device as here illustrated, comprises a body or casing made in three sections, designated, respectively, 1, 2 and 3, section 1, being adapted at its lower end to be attached to a cotton picking pipe 4, and at its upper end provided with an inner annular flange 5, forming a ball run or bearing, and an outer annular flange 6, above which the upper end of said section 1 is externally threaded, as at 7.
At their inner ends said fans are secured to a collar 16 around said tubular member 13*. Connecting bars 16 also connect the collar 16 and the bearing ring 17 and strengthen the fan bearing ring structure.
As suction is applied through the conveying tube 4, to which said casing is attached, a current is set up through said casing in said tubular member 13 for drawing in the cotton bolls, and also through the holes 9 in said outer casing and through the fan 16, resulting in the rotation of said fan and said tubular member 13, and thus more effectively passing the cotton balls through said tubular member 13, because it is revolving and into the cotton conveying tube 4.
It will be understood, of course, that changes can be made in the structure as here.
1. In a cotton picking device, a body, a
tubular member axially and rotatably mounted in said body, a fan structure mounted around said tubular member, and a ball bearingsupporting mechanism around the outer edge of said fan, secured thereto, and operating between said fan and said body for revolubly supporting said tubular member.
2. In a cotton picking device, an outer casing made in three sections, screwed together, a tubular member axially and revolubly mounted in said casing, a fan around said tubular member within said casing, and ball bearing supporting means around said fan and between said casing and-said fan,- substantially as described.
' of said tubular member, annular bearing rlngs arranged one around sald tubular member intermediate its ends and another around the outer periphery of said fan, and between said fan and the inside of said outer casing, and ball bearings mounted between said rings and the inside of said outer casing for rotatably supporting said fan and said tubular member, substantially as described.
Signed at Oklahoma city, Oklahoma county, Oklahoma, this lath day "of J anu- V ary, 1918.
