TQ BOSTON PENCIL POINTER COMPANY, or WALTHA CHIP-RECEPTAQLE FOR PENCIL-POINTERS.
1,305,855.. Original application filed December 15,
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that we, ROBERT A. WI SON, of l/vatertown, in the county of Middlesex and ALL N P. WILSON, of Waltham, in the county of Mid: dlesex and Stat vented certain new and useful Improve- ,ments in Chip-Receptacles for Pencil-Pointers; and we do hereby declare the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof. V
,This application is a divisional application of applicants pending applicatioir Serial No. 806,757, filed December 15th, 1913.
The invention but more particularly to a novel form of chip receptacle for use in connection therewith, and has for its object to provide a chip receptacle that is completely inclosed and has a non-transparentend-portions.
To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and more particularly set forth in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail, ref- I erence will be had to the accompanying in whichvdrawings,
1 is a side elevation of a pencil- Figure pointer provided with our novel construc-' tion of chip receptacle, and
Fig. 2'is a top plan view of the same. Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the standard of the pencil-pointer, which is provided with a suitable base-portion 2, by
means of which it may be secured to a suitable support. The standard 1 has formed integral there'with a head-portion 3 and an elongated bearingv 4; for the shaft of the cutter-carrier" 5. Saidj cutter-carrier 5 is provided with a shaft 6 journaled in the elongated bearingv 4 and provided at one end with a handle with a tubular pencil-guiding portion 8. Mounted in the cutter-carrier 5 are two rotary cutters 9 having spiral cutting blades.
Mounted upon the head 3 is a chip-receptacle-holder 10 which comprises a split bodyportion clamped upon said head 3 by a screw 11 mounted in lugs 12. screw 11' between the lugs 12 is a latch 13 Specification of Letters Patent.

which is constructed and arranged to normally rest in this closed, position. Projecting from the holder 10 on opposite sides ofthe pencil-guide 8 are two rods 14 which serve as supports for the chip-receptacle 15.
Said chip-receptacle 15 consists of two end portions 16 and 17 connected together 18 mounted in lateral projections the op osite sides of ea h of said end portions. 'ach lateral projection 19 is provided with a hole extendlngthrough-the same and of such a size as to permit the rods 14 to slide freely therein. Said projections 19 are also provided with inwardly extending annular flanges 20 which are adapted to receive the ends of the tubular rods 21.
Each of the end portions 16 and 17 is provided with an inwardly extending lateral by rOds 1, upon flange 22 extending completely around said edge of said flange and lock the chip-receptacle 15 in engagement with the holder 10, as shown in Fig. 1.
It will be seen t portion ofthe chip-receptacle will permit the operator to observe the sharpening op eration and the amount of chips that have accumulated in the chip-receptacle.
What we claim as our invention a d desire to secure by Letters Patent is: Y
1. A. chip receptacle for pencil p comprising a transparent body-portion an non-transparent end portions secured to said transparent body-portion.
2. A chip-receptacle for comprising a transparent oval body-portion, non-transparent end portions, and means for securing said end-portions to said transparent body-portion.
ointers iat the transparent body-- 1 pencil pointers 3. A chip-receptacle for pencil-pointers M flange extending aroundthe periphery thereof, and means for securing said transparent body-portion to said end portions and in engagement with said inwardly extending two rods arranged to clamp saidjend-p'Or-v t ions against said body-portion.
chip-receptacle for pencil-pointers eomprising a transparent oval body-portion,
two non-transparent oval end portions each provided with two holes extending through thesame, two tubular rods arranged to reg-- 15 ister with said holes and t wo rods arranged to clamp said end portions in engagement with said body-portion and with the ends of said tubular rods. 4
