To all whom it may concern? Be it known that l, ALFRED DREYIJNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maurer township, in the county of Middle- SEX and State of New Jersey,have invented new and useful Improvements in Reinforced Shoes, ,of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shoes, and more particularly to shoes, formed of canvas, and designed to'serve as a substitute for leather in the manufacture of shoes for work purposes and the like. One object is to provide a shoe, the upper of which is formed of an outer layer of reinforced canvas, and an inner layer of canvas cemented to the outer layer, the sole and. heel being formed of reinforced layers of canvas, and other layers of canvas of the 'usual commercial quality.
A still further object is to-provide means.
for reinforcing the arch of the shoe, 'inad dition to the reinforcement of the upper, sole and heel in the manner indicated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of A elements hereinafter described and claimed.

In carrying out my invention I form an upper 10 of an outer reinforced layer 12 and an inner layer 14 of a commercial type of canvas of suitable quality.
The outer layer may-be of ten ounce canvas! reinforced with strands of wire desig nated 15, this wire being of copper, brass, aluminum, or other metal. The wire strands 15 are interwoven with the cotton threads designated 16, the various strands being cotton threads being placed side by side, "and then a strand of wire, followed by two additional strands of cotton. This type of mesh extends in both directions, the transverse and longitudinal strands corresponding, sc

What is claimed is:
1, In a shoe, an upper formed of a pinrality of thicknesses of material, the outer thickness comprising a layer formed of fiber and of wire, the fiber and wire being inter woven, and av sole and heelfor the shoe, certain of the layers of said sole and heel being reinforced with wire.
2. In ashes, an upper formed of a pinrality of, layers of flexible material cemented together, one of the layers ccmpi ising threads iii-l of fibrous material, interwoven with strands of wire, a plurality of fiber strands being located between each two strands of the warp and weft strands of wire, and a sole and heel for the shoe. 7

Ina shoe, an upper formed of a pinralityof layers of material, one of which is formed of fiber interwoven with wire, fiexible means for reinforcing the edges of the upper adjacent to the opening of the iongne, and a sole formed of a plurality of layers of flexible material and a plurality of layers formed of fiber interwoven with Wire, the wire extending in the direction-of the Warp and in the direction of the Weft, the layers of flexible material and the layers Within which the wire mesh is incorporated being stitched across substantially the entire sur- 10 face, and means for reinforcing the arch of the shoe.
