Be it known that I, IVALTER T. GODDARD, 'of Victor, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulator- Caps; and I do hereby declare the followingv to be a full, clear, and exact description ot the same, reference being had to the ac-l companying drawings, forming a part ot this specitication, and to the reterence characters marked thereon.
My invention has for its. chief purpose to provide an insulator cap that can be formed otsheet metal, and is specially applicable to the type of cap employed with high tension current insulating units and attached to porcelain or other insulating material, the cap acting as the immediate support for the insulating portion. A further purpose of the improvement is to provide a structure that can be economically manufactured within reasonable limitations, and which also .possesses the strength and resisting qualities usually required by such a device. A more particular purpose ot' the invention is to permit making the entire structure of stamped sheet metal, and ,at the same time adequately protecting the interior ot' the cap so as 'to eliminate the possibility of moisture reaching the insulating material and finding lodgment there. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts. all .as will I -be hereinafter more fully described, the
novel features being pointed out ,iin the claims at the end of the specification.

Similar reference characters throughout the several views indicate the same parts.
In the form shown in Figs. l to a inclusive, the cap includes an outer shell l that is formed from a sheet metal blank or plate which is subjected to suitable stamping operations to form the side walls and top of the cap. The top is pressed upwardly at its central portion forming side walls'or ears 2 which are further provided with lateral openings 3, while 3a is an opening atthe extreme top to receive a connecting device. The side walls 2 are flanged inwardly surrounding the openings 3 as indicated by al, providing a bearing for a pin 5 by which the connecting device or eye bolt 6 is attached to the cap. It will beobserved that with an arrangement of this character formed by stamping operations, an opening T is produced in the top ot the cap. To prevent moisture which enters throughthis opening-from reaching the insulating material in the interior ot the cap, I employ a protective member located beneath said opening and permanently attachedV to the side walls of the outer shell l.
This protective member is preferably in the form ot' an interior shell Shaving an upper portion 9 which extends across the under side of the top of the outer shel-ll and forms a complete inclosure under Vthe opening 7. The shell 8 is permanently se' cured to the outer shell 1 and may be. galvanized thereto or otherwise attached to accomplish the stated purpose. The inner shell 8 thus has an intimate union With the outer shell l and forms a complete protection at the top, which effectively shields the interior against ingress of moisture. As the principal function of the inner shell is to forma closure under the opening, the outer shell l is provided with drain passages 10 across its top to adord an outletreadilyT for any water or other liquids that might collect on the top of the inner shell 9.

The shell l is stamped outwardly, providing a bellshaped socket 12 which is cut away at the top at'13, and at the side as indicated by 1%, to receive the enlarged end l5 of connecting bolt 16. The latter is held in place by a cotter pin 17, which engages the inner l end of the bolt 16 and prevents its removal.
