IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC SIEVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,514, dated August 13, 1872.
Specilication describing certain Improvements in Metallic Sieves, invented byRoBERT J. MANN, of Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa.
Nature of the laurent/ion.
This invention relates to the manner of securing the netting or Wire-cloth to a strengthening-ring previous t0 attaching it to the lnetallic body; and the invention consists in, rst, bending the raw edges of the netting around a wire ring of properdiameter, and then inclosin g the ring and the netting rolled around it by a casing or partial tube ot' sheet metal formed thereon by pressure; the purpose being to strengthen the netting and so connect it to this annular frame-Work that it maybe infolded in the substance of the metal sides and permanently attached thereto; `or may be placed in an open gutter, or upon a rib or suitable Test in the sieve-body, so as to be removable. To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I Will proceed to describe the same with particularity, making use in so doing of the aforesaid drawing by letters of reference thereto.
General Description.
A represents the Wire-cloth or netting. B i
is the wire ring about which the netting is bent and secured. C is an annular tube or casing made by folding a narrow strip of sheet metal around the wire and the portion of netting surrounding it. This sheet metal is forcibly pressed or swaged intothe shape shown and serves to secure most etfectually the raw edges ot1 the netting from slipping or loosening; producing, in conjunction with the Wire B, a rigid substantial frame-work, inclosing and supporting the netting A in such manner that it may be applied to the metallic sides or body by any of the known Ways of fastening, or it may be simply placed from above into an open gutter or upon a suitable rib or rest at the bottom of the body, so that it will be removable at pleasure.
