York, have invented certain new and useful A Improvements in Bolt-Anchors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates to bolt anchors and j V is shown in Figs. 9 to 13 inclusive which cor particularly to such as comprise folded ,metal parts and are adapted to be formed from sheet metal.
In my copending application Serial No. 878,844 filed Dec. 24, 1914, of which this application forms a continuation in part, I have shown, described and claimed broadly,
a bolt anchor comprising a tubular metal member having a tapered bore and having the thickness of its walls increased by folding the metal together near the smaller part of the tapered bore. I
My present invention pertains in general to bolt anchors. of the same kind, and has for one object to provide a tubular anchor having a substantially cylindrical constricted bore at one part, the walls of the constricted bore being increased in thickness by folding or wrapping the metal therein. Two or more thicknesses of metal are thus formed in close contact and the exterior of the anchor is shaped to fit closely to a cylindrical hole.
Another object is to provide an anchor of the aforesaid character having a two-part shell and wedge blocks for forming the members of the shell apart.
In order that my invention may be thoroughly understood, I will now proceed to describe the same in the following specification, and then point out the novel features thereof in appended claims.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a bolt anchor arranged and constructed in accordance with my invention and constituting one embodifment thereof.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.

Still another modification of my invention respond respectively to Figs. 4 to 8, the transverse sections shown in Figs. 11 and 12 being taken on the lines 1111 and 1212 of Fig. 10.
Referring first to Figs. 1,2 and 3, the bolt anchor here shown comprises a tubular body 15 composed of a part 16 having a tapered 7 part 17 having a substantially cylindrical constricted bore. The part 17 throughout the greater part of its length has the thickness of its walls increased by an outer layer is formed from the projection 20 which is folded or wrapped upon the inner layer.
The arrangement of parts is such that the outside diameter of the thickened part of the anchor is substantially equal to the largest diameter of the tapered part 16. Consequently the anchor is adapted to fit closely into a cylindrical hole before it is expanded.
The expansion of the anchor is facilitated by incisions 21 and the tapered part 16 is provided with diamond-shaped notches 22 to receive projections or lugs 23 which extend laterally'from the taper plug expander 24 which prevent it from rotating and assist in the expansion of the device. The expander has a tapped hole 25 to receive a threaded bolt in a well known manner.
The anchor instead of having a single tapered part and a single expander may be formed with a tapered part at each end, the
cylindrical walls of which are increased in thickness becoming the middle part of the anchor and a second taper plug expander being utilized.
I In Figs. 4 to 8 inclusive to which special reference may now be had, I have shown a double end expander of a slightly modified construction which comprises a tubular body 26 formed of two parts which are identical and which are preferably held together'by spring rings 27 or other suitable means" which-is intended towikeep the parts of the devicetogether until it is .usedand may be replaced by any suitable means. Referring to Figs. 9 to 13, inclusive, in
which like ,parts are designated by the same reference characters, the anchor here shown differs from that shown in Figs. lto 8 inelusive,inthatthe bore of the shell tapers inwardly ,tothe center and the projections or wings a2 which are folded or lapped onto the central ,part .of the anchor to increase the thickness of the walls at the constricted middle part, are preferably tapered asshown .in Fig. l3.
A pairvof tapered plugs or expanders 43 and 4% correspond respectively to the expanders 34 and '35 and are similarly provided .with lugs 45 and 46 corresponding to the lugs 32 and 33 cooperating. with notches 47 which prevent the :expanders from turning and help to spread the members f of the shell apart when a gbolt is in serted and tightened as shown in Fig. 9.
While :I have shown structures formed of uniform thickness metalpand -while 1 prefer to employ ordinary sheet metal, my invention is not limited in; this regard and .gethere laterally-r lapping. ofthe metal upon itself.

A bolt anchor formed of sheet metal having a tubular body comprising twdsimilar semi-cylindrical members, each consisting of a punching or stamping having 'fl'aring ends and lateral projections, said lateral projections being folded back on thfcentral portion of the member, whereby the anchor has an opening tapering outwardly from the center and thickened walls at the: restricted part of the opening.
12. A bolt anchor formed of sheet metal having a tubular body comprising two similar semi-cylindrical members, each having a central constricted portion in which its Walls are thickened by folding the sheet metal back on itself, expansion members in the respective ends of said tubular body, and wedge projections from said expansion members, said semi-cylindrical members bein constructed with notches between whic said projections are received.
