" Cleaners and Driers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to power die stamping presses and more particularly to a wiping ribbon cleaner therefor.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a combination of j elements to be attached to any form of power die stamping press for cleaning the wiping ribbons thereof.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of means for cleaning the wiping ribbons used on power die stamping presses so that said wiping ribbons can be used a number of times.
A still further object of this invention re sides in the provision of means whereby the wiping ribbons of power die stamping presses will be washed and dried after having performed their functions.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of means for cleaning the wiping ribbons of power die stamping presses and recovering the ink collected thereon Vfor further use.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be more particularly set forth in the specification herewith and pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that the right is reserved to resort to any changes in construction as come within the scope of the claim.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a conventional illustration of a power die stamping press showing the elements of this invention attached thereto.

In the present embodiment of this invention the letter A designates a conventional illustration of a power die stamping press, which, in this instance, consists of a feed reel, B, a windin reel C, a wiping pad D, an ink fountain lt, wiping ribbon guides F, in the form of rollers and brace rods Gr. The aforesaid elements being parts lof but'one form of a power die stampin press, which may be rearranged without aflecting the operation of this invention, as certain minor departures from the present disclosure will be necessary to permit this invention to be applied to different types of power die stamping presses.
Securely fastened adjacent to the wiping pad D, of the power die stamping press on certain yof the brace rods Gr, is a scraper frame, 5 which supports a plurality of guide rollers 6, for directing the wiping ribbon H, in contact with an adjustable scraping blade, 7 carried between the side members 8, of the scraper frame 5. y
Attached on the power die stamping press A remote to the wiping pad thereof, is the frame 9 of a paper washer and drier which consists of guide rollers 10, 11 and 12 and adjustable Scrapers, 13 and 14, arranged on opposite sides of the wiping ribbon and a heated pad 15, for engagement with the wiping ribbon, to dry the same after being washed by passing around the lower roller, 11, which is submerged in a washing fluid in the reservoir 16.
In the present instance, the reservoir consist of two compartments 17 and 18, having a partition 19, therebetween of less height than the sides of the reservoir, so that the heavier particles of the ink that is removed from the wiping ribbon by the scraper, 14 will be deposited in the compartment 18, and the fluid thereof will be permitted to flow over the partition as the compartment 18 is filled.
Beneath the scraper 7 is suitably secured a gutter, 20, for delivering the inkthat is initially removed from the wiping ribbon by the scraper 7, to the ink fountain for further use.
With the aforesaid elements, arranged in operative positions, thefwipingl ribbon is passed beneath the wiping pad D, from the feed reel B, and directed in contact with the scraper blade 7 by the rollers 6, after which it is directed into the reservoir 16, by the rollers 10 and 11, and after being submerged in the fluid in said reservoir, the wiping ribbon is directed in Contact with the scrapers 13 and 14, past which it is drawn over the roller 12 and heated pad 15, located between said upper roller and said winding reel, to the winding reel C.
Adjacent the roller 11 and slidable on a shaft 39 is a reciprocating wiper 25, which is manipulated in this instance by meshing gears 26 and 40, on shafts 27 and 39 ofthe roller l1 and wiper 25 respectively. The gear 40 is loose on the shaft 39 and carries a cam 28 which is adapted to engage the adjacent surface of the wiper 25 so that as the loose gear 40 on the wiper shaft 39 is rotated by the gear 26 on the shaft 27, the cam will cause the wiper to compress the spring 41 at its opposite end and upon the disengagement of the cam the spring will return the wiper so that the cam can again perform tho same function. As shown the adjustable scrapers 13 and 14 are located above the reciprocating wiper 25.
lVith the above mechanism it is possible to thoroughly remove particularly all the ink left on the ribbon after being bathed in the fluid within the reservoir 16.
With this invention fully set forth, it is manifest that a wiping ribbon cleaner for [power die stamping presses is produced which is cheap to manufacture, easily attached to any type of press and readily adapted to prolong the life of the wiping ribbon.
Having thus described this invention, what I claim is:
The combination with a die stamping press including a winding reel and a feed reel, of a ribbon wiping and cleaning mechanism comprising a frame, a lower guide roller held in said frame, a shaft adjacent to said roller, a cam gear loose on said shaft, a wiper mounted for reciprocatory movement on said shaft, a reservoir located in said frame, said roller being located in said reservoir, a gear held to said roller and in mesh with said cam gear, a spring on said shaft to force said wiper against said cam gear, an upper guide roller, an adjustable scraper located above said wiper, a second adjustable scraper located above said first mentioned adjustable scraper, and a heated pad located between said upper roller and said winding reel, whereby a wiping ribbon unwinding from said feed reel to said winding reel is made to pass over said lower roller, and against said reciprocating wiper between and against said adjustable wipers, over said upper roller and pad, and upon said winding reel.
