SAMUEL B. PARMENTER, OF LEWISTON, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPlNDLE-STEPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,148, dated August 6, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. PARMEN- TER,-of Lewiston, in the county of Androscoggin and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spindle-Step; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to theletters of reference marked thereon.
This invention consists of a spindle-step which is provided with an inclosed oil-chamber, a basin or groove for receiving the oil,
and channels for conveying the oil from the basin to the inclosed oil-chamber, by means of which construction the step can be supplied with oil without stopping the machinery, and the oil-chamber is protectedfrom the entrance of dirt and waste, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved spindle-step, with a partial view of the spindle Fig. 2, a sectional elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 an elevation of the step and supporting-beam.
To enable others skilled in the 'art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
A represents the step, provided with the projection a, by means of which it is supported in the beam, and also with the cone-shaped central extension a, as shown. The interior of the step is provided with a central recess in its lower part adapted to receive the foot of the spindle, an enlarged recess, a which forms the oil-chamber, and the opening adapted to receive and hold the enlarged part of the spindle, as shown in Fig. 2. 0 represents a basin or groove which is formed in the upper face of the projecting portion a of the step, which basin is connected to the internal oilchamber by means of channels 0.
The operation is as follows: When it is'desired to supply the step with oil, this result may be accomplished by pouring it into the basin 0, from which it passes readily, by means of the channels 0, into the internal chamber. By means of this construction the step may be oiled without stopping the machinery, and
the oil-chamber is protected from the entrance of dirt and waste. The device is complete in itself, no caps or other protecting devices being needed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The step A provided with projection a, central cone -shaped extension a, inclosed oilchamberaP, basin 0, and channel 0, as and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed and witnessed this 12th day of July, 1872.
