radial openings 2 are adapted to receive the charge such as an explosive and shrapnel or other form of missiles to' be projected. vCaps 5 close the outer ends ofthe openings 2 and lmay be seoured to the body in any preferred way.` As shown the caps 5 are of concavoconvex form and threaded into enlargements of the outer 'ends of theradial openings 2; A plug 6is fitted in the opening 3 and is retained inplace therein in any'manner. As
shownl theplug 6 is held in'the opening 3 by a screw-thread joint 7. w Recesses 8 are vformed in the sides of the plug 6 opposite the inner ends of the respective radial openings 2. Openings 9 connect the lower ends of the recesses 8 with a longitudinal opening 10 formed centrally within the lower portion of the plug 6. Fulminate or other charge igniting composition 11 is located at the inner end of the opening 10. A firing pin 12 is disposed to operate in the opening 10. A portion of the firing pin is reduced,- as indicated at 13, and this-reduced portion receives a washer 14 or like form of retainer by means of which the firing pin is held in place. The reduced portion 13 is of such a length as to admit of the firing pin having ample movement to explode the fulminate 11 and fire .the bomb. The outer end of the opening 10 is enlarged and receives an ex- Vpansible helical spring 15 which normally holds the firing pin projected. i One of the features of the invention is to impart a rotary movement to the bomb when in flight and for this purpose a propeller 16 .is provided and as shown a stem 17 connects the propeller 16 with the body of the bomb. The propeller 16 may be of any design or structure so long as it serves to impart a rotary movement to the bomb while the latter is in flight.
A fbomb constructed in accordance with the present invention is adapted to contain charges of any nature. When the bomb is released it assumes a position'with the firing driven upwardly into the plug 6 thereby setting oif the fulminate 11 and firing the bomb which discharges horizontally-thereby causing the greatest damage-to a hostile body or territo The foregoing descriptionand the dra'VV ings haVe reference to What may be considered the preferred, or approvedform of my` i invention; It is to be understood that I may make Vsuch changes'in construction and' arrangement and combination of parts, ma?
I terials, dimensions, et ceterayas may proVe expedient and fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire ,to secu-re by Letters Patent is:-'
1. A bomb, comprising a body having a Vertical opening: and radal openings, the`` latter containing harges, a plug held in the Cpiel ot this' patent Vmay be obtained tor Vtudinal openings of the plug. w U
