To all whom it may concern;
Be it lmown that 1, ANDREW J. Woon, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bakersfield, in the county of Kern and State of California, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Train-Order Deliverers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to railway appliances and has more especial reference to an improved train order deliverer.
The dominant object of the invention is to provide novel means whereby a train order may be efficiently delivered to the crew of a moving train, thereby, eliminating the necessity of bringing the train'to a full stop before the receiving of the order.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved order holding means, whereby, when one order is removed therefrom a second will be instantly and automatically moved into delivering position.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for yieldably supporting the order delivering means, thus, allowing the same to be abruptly removed without fracturing the same or tearing or mutilating the order.
Other and further improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of parts will be appreciated from the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with th accompanying drawing, formin a part hereof, and wherein the preferre embodiment of the invention is shown for the purpose of illustration.

With more particular reference to the drawing, wherein like reference numerals \refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, a supporting post 1 is provided and has arran ed upon the upper flattened portion thereof a base plate 2, the base plate in turn receivin thereupon the annu-, lar stand portion 3 o a vertically disposed spindle 4, the upper extremity of the said spindle being, screw-threaded as at 5, the purpose of which will be subsequently apparent. annular anti frictional bearwhereby the various train orders may be held in position in order to be grasped by certain of the crew of the moving train, there is provided a rotatable supporting means designated in its entirety by the nu meral 7 and comprising a hub portion 8 adapted to be loosely mounted upon the vertically disposed spindle 4, carrying thereon a plurality of radiating sockets 9, which sockets receive therein the train order delivering and holdin means. As will be noted, one portion 0 the hub 8 is substantially cylindrical and thus affords an eflicient winding drum, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. To secure the hub portion 8 of the support 7 in position upon the vertically disposed spindle 4, a locking nut 10 is turned into en gagement with the screw-threaded portion 5 of the spindle. To eliminate friction to the greatest possible extent, a bearing raceway is formed within the lower face of the hub portion 8, preferably, in direct alinement with the race-way as formed within the annular stand 3 and as will be obvious, receives the upper portions of the bearings 6 therein.
To one side of the post 1, a bar 11 is secured and has its upper extremity bifurcated whereby a guide pulley 12 may be r0- tatably mounted therein. Directly beneath the bar 11, a bracket 13 is arranged and has pivotally mounted between the side portions thereof an arm 14, which arm has slidably arranged thereupon a weighted element 15, the said weighted element being secured in its various adjusted positions through the medium of the set screw 16 turned into engagement therewith and adapted to bind at times upon the adjacent face of the said arm 14. A cable 17 is se cured at one end thereof to the arm 14 and passes upwardly over the guide pulley 12 about the windin drum portion of the hub 8. Thus, it will e understood that when a portion of the cable 17 is coiled about the winding drum of the hub 8 the weighted arm 14 will be drawn upwardly and as a consequence, the cable 17 will be placed under tension. 7
A right angularly formed arm 18 is socured'to' the plate 2,'preferably, at a point opposite tothe mounting of the bar '11 and has the vertically. disposed portionthereof arranged in. proximity ofthe outer extremities of the various socket members 9 carried by the rotatable support 7.
A train order holding and delivering rod 19 is provided and has the outer extremity thereof looped as at "20, whereby a train order, such ,asdesignated bythe numeral 21 may be readily engaged therewith, the
loop being sopositioned as to permit the same to be readily grasped by certain members ofthe crew of thepassing train. Ob-
viously,'by'placing the rod 19 within certain of the 'varioussockets 9,,the same will bebrought into, engagement with the vertiqeally disposedportion of the arm 18 by 7 reason of the cable 17 and theweighted arm lwhich is-engagedtherewith. Thus, when the'loop of the rod 19 is grasped by the member of the train crew to remove the same from its respective socket :9, the support 7 will not be rotated, until the rod has been entirely removed from the said socket 9. At this'time, the support 7 will be then rotated until the cable 17 has been entirely uncoiled from the winding drum of the hub portion 8.. By sofengaging the order holding and delivering rod 19 with the various'sockets 9 50f the support 7, it
is toxbe appreciated that the same will be rious sockets 9 015 the Support 7 and when suchi's the case, upon the removal of. one of the rods 19 from its respective socket, the. support 7 will be permitted to rotate until'the-next or following rod is engaged with the vertically disposed portion of the arm 18, whereat, it will be maintained in delivering-position.
