Description

R; H. REVIE R. WINDOW SHADE ROLLER.
APPLICATION FILED E8. 5. 1918.

WINDOW-SHADE ROLLER.
To all whomz't may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. Rnvrnn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of L Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Rollers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in curtain shade rollers and has particular reference to a novel and improved spring actuating means for the roller.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described adapted for application to shade rollers for rolling the shade upon the roller.
Another object of my invention is to provide means for arresting the rotative movement of the roller.
A further obj ect of my invention is to provide a shade roller having improved means associated therewith for connecting the roller with a shade whereby to prevent accidental disconnection of the shade from the roller.
Other objects and advantages to be derived from the use of my improved shade roller will appear from the following detail description and the claim, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a shade roller embodying the improvements of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same;
Fig. 3 is an end elevational view of the same;
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken through the drum showing. particularly the means for mounting the spring; and
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken through the shade roller proper.
Referring moreparticularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates a portion of a window frame or casing havin a pair of. bearing brackets 2 and 3 mounte thereon, screws 4 or the like serving to prevent displacement of said brackets. The
brackets 2 and 3 serve to support a shaft 5 which carries the shade roller 6 about which is wound a curtain 7.
The inner free end of the curtain 7 is secured to the roller 6, a portion of the roller 7 Specification of Letters Patent. i

being removable and'designated 8, said portion 8 being maintained in clamping engagement with the free end 9 of the curtain by means of a plurality of screws 10 or like fastening elements. i
The shaft 5 extends beyond the bearing bracket 2 and is journaled in an auxiliary bracket 11 secured to the window casing 1 by means of a screw 12 or the like. The auxiliary bracket 11 carries disks 13 on which is mounted pivotally a plurality of pawls 14: having lugs 15 engageable at times with a plurality of recesses 16 formed in the shaft 5.
The spring means of my invention in cludes a fiat coil spring member 17 having one free end thereof secured as at 18 to the shaft 5 and the other free end secured to a casing 19 carried by the bearing bracket 2. The spring is coiled in such a manner as to tend to wind the shade upon the roller similarly to the shade rollers now in common use.
It will be seen that in the event that the shade becomes worn out or torn the same may be easily removed from the roller without removin the roller from the bearing bracket, this being accomplished by virtue of the detachable portion 8 of the roller 6. It will also be noted that a roller may be locked at any point whereby to maintain the shade in a desired position. This feature is best shown in Figs. 2 and 3. I do not limit myself to the use to which the improved spring shade operating means of my invention is put, in view of the fact that the strong and durable construction of the same warrants its application to various uses, the same being particularly adapted for use in connection with large shades.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described my invention as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that I may make such changes in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I cfaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a device of the character described, spaced main brackets, an auxiliary bracket arranged in closely spaced relation to one of the main'brackets, a shaft journaled through the brackets, a shade roller carried by't-he shaft and positioned between the main:
brackets, a casing arranged loosely about the shaft between the auxiliary bracket and one of the main brackets and secured to the outer H face of the adjacent main bracket, a spring arranged about the shaft within the Casing and having one end secured to the shaft and the remaining end secured to the casing, the
oted to the disk and terminating in lugs for coactive engagement with the recess in the shaft.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
ROBERT H. REVIER.
