Description

ATENT f EEIcE.
JEssE DYEE, 0E EoUsEvILLE, PEruvsYLvANIA.
`IMPROVENIENT iN woon P AVE'MEN-rs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent o. 130,028, dated July 30, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JESSE DYER, of Rouseville, in the county of Venaugo and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Wood Pavement; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a perspective View; Fig. 2, a section taken longitudinally of the street; and Fig. 3, a section transverse to the street.
Similar letters of reference in the accompanying drawing indicate the same parts.
,This invention is an improvement upon then well-known Staord pavement; and consists in using,in combination with the'keyed blocks and the transverse key-pieces, a series of parallel longitudinal key-pieces, dovetailed into the under side of the transverse key-pieces, so i as tolock them all together, substantially as hereinafter set forth. .i
I n the drawing, B B are the paving-blocks, constructed With a dovetail key, m, on their lower ends. C C are the transverse key-pieces, used to space the blocks and lock them down,
as shown in Figs. 1 and 2; and A A are the longitudinal key-pieces added by me, said pieces being dovetailed into the under side of the pieces C G at right angles with them. The key-pieces G C are made comparatively narrow and deep, and the key-pieces A A wide and thin, so that when the latter are in position, as shown in the drawing, the blocks B'B can be slid into place without comingin contact with the lower foundation.
The result is that the pavement can be laid very rapidly, and when laid is strong, durable, and of uniform even surface, not only the i11- dividual blocks, but Whole rows of blocks being interlocked and connected together in such a way that no block or row of blocks can start up or down out of place so as to render the surface uneven.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In a Wood pavement having the blocks B B and transverse pieces C C, constructed and combined as described, the iiat longitudinal key-piecesAA, dovetailed into the under side of the cross-pieces beneath the line of the blocks, substantially as described, for the pue poses speciiied.
JESSE DYER.
