ITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM M. BROOKE, OF EATON, ASSIGNOR TO EXCELSIOR SCHOOL-FUR- NITURE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO..
IMPROVENIEN'II IN SETTEES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,011, dated July 30, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all -whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. BROOKE, of Eaton, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Settees; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the Iaccompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a reversible settee, or, other seat, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring i to the annexed drawing, which is a transverse vertical section of my reversible settee.
The supports for my settee consist of two or more castings, A, connected on the front and rear by barsv B, and may be secured permaA nently tothe iioor, or be movable, as desired. The seat proper is composed of two or more arms, C, connected by slatsD D. The arms C are of the` general shape of an L, but both parts ofthe same are curved in the same manner from the angle, as shown. The cross-section of the arms is either L or T shaped, so as to present a comparatively broad surface to which to secure the slats D D.
The seat and support are connected in the following manner: yIn the center of each supportthat is, in the center from front to back,
but not necessarily from top to bottomis hinged or pivoted a bar, E. The outer end of each bar E is pivoted to one arm, C, at the angle thereof. In the outer edge of this angle is a notch, which ts on a lug or stop, a, at either side of the support A.
It will readily be seen that the seat C D can be turned over to either side, that part thereof which forms the back in one direction becoming the seat in the other, and vice versa, the two parts of theseat being exactly alike.
This seat may be used in any place where it is desirable at times to reverse the seats.
Having thus fully described lmy invention, what I claim as new, and' desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' l. The bars E, pivoted below the seats to the frame A, and having the seat C D pivoted at the angle to the upper end of said bars, all combined substantially as and for the purpose herein specified. Y
2. The combination of the supports A, seat C D, pivoted bars E, and stops a, all constructed and arranged substantially as and f for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
W. M. BROOKE. Witnesses:
A. EDGAR HUBEARD, B. F. LARsII.
