V In Figs.- 1 and 2 of thedrawing illustrated one. use or my improved and in said figures. 1ois che r the vertical ribs or beams which forrnther skeleton or framework of thewh ull of. a heater vessel, andat 1 1 I. have shown a part'of twootthe sidinglplanksor boards secured tothe verti' I have clamp,
cal rib 10, and at "12 I have shown my clamp device connected with the rib 10 below lower plank or board 11. V
The clamp 12 consists of an L-shaped body comprising a wide and approximately tnthe angular-sliaped front plate 13, and a narrow side plate 14: which forms a guide for the clamp as hereinafter set out. At the top of the front plate 13 is a forwardly directed inclined face plate 15 reinforced by a central ,web 16, and the face ofs'aid' plate 15 1s provided centrally with an upwardly directed bead 17 which extends the full length thereof, as clearly shown in Figs. 3and 4:.
The front plate 13 is provided with an elongated aperture 18 which is arranged at anangle to the side plate 14, as shown in Fig. 1, and the bottom of said aperture is enlarged at one side as shown at 19. I also employ a clamp block or clip 20 which is of approximately triangular forni,' and the longer side or face of which is provided with a plurality of teeth or projections 21 as shown in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawing; and at one side of said clamp block is an outwardl'y directed lug 22, which is adapted to fit in and operate in the elongated aperture 18, and one face of said lug is provided with a rounded and reducedflange 23 whicheverl'aps one side wall of the aperture 18, as
shown in Fig. 1, and locks the clamp block or clip 20 in connection with the front plate 13 but permits of the movement of said clamp block or clip longitudinally of the elongated aperture 18. The outwardly directed. lug 22 and flange 23 are adapted to 'passthrough the enlarged portion 19 of the aperture18,- but when said clamp block is connected with the plate 13 a pin 24 is secured in. the bottom face. of the lug 22 and this pin prevents-thedisplacement of said clamp block from: said plate.
The top of the side 14 of the bod ofvthe elar'np12 is provided with an upwardlydirecited. portion 25 whichis rounded as shown.
at 26',and thevface 27 of. the upwardly directediportionis in line withthe back face 28 ofthe front plate 13, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 3 and e of the drawing and in the use of the device s'r in the. placement ters Patent, is
moved vertically inthe slot to bring thezface thereof provided with the teeth, or projections 21 in engagement with the opposite sides of the rib 10, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, after which a wedge 29 is forced'between the face plate 15 and the bottom ofthe plank or board 11 by a hammer or other tool, and this bindsthe clamp 12 on the, rib 10 and moves the plank or board 11 vertically into engagement with the next adjacent plank or board, after which the nails or other attaching devices 30 are passed through said plank or board to secure it to the rib 10.
The upwardly directed head 17 on the face late 15 is employed to prevent the slipping of'the wedge 29 outwardly in the operation of placing the plank or board 11 in position, and it will be understood that while I have shown one use of my improved clamp and certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, my invention is not limited to such use of the device, nor to the details of construction herein shownand described, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of-the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or sacrificing its advantages. f
Having fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new and 1. In a clamp of the class described, an
7 L-shaped body one side ofwhich is provided with an elongated aperture, and a clamp block mounted to move longitudinally' of said aperture, the top of the clamp being provided with a face plate arranged in an inclined position.
2. In a clamp of the class described, an
L-Shaped bodyone' side of whichis provided with an elongated aperture, and a clamp block mounted to move longitudinally of said aperture, the top of the clamp, being provided with a face plate" arranged in an inclined position, the face of said clamp block being provided with a plurality-of teeth.
3. In a clamp of the class described, an
with an elongated aperture ranging at an angle to the other side, the top of sald L-shaped body one side of which is provided first named side beingprovidedwith an'inclin'ed face plate,'the vtop of the last named side beingprovided with an upwardly d1- desire to secure by Let- I o "elongated aperture in the front plate, said lug being provided with a flanged portion rected portion, and a clamp block mounted at the back of the first named plate and adapted to operate in said elongated aperture and the face of said clamp block being provided with a plurality of teeth.
4. In a clamp of the class described, a front plate of approximately triangular form and a side platearranged at right angles to said front plate, said front plate being provided with an elongated aperture which ranges at an angle to the side plate and the lower end portion of which is enlarged at one side, the top of the front plate is provided with an'outwardly directed face plate ranging in an inclined position, and the face of which is provided with a longitudinal bead or projection, a clamp block the face of which is provided with a plurality of teeth and one side of whichis provided with a projecting lug adapted to pass through and operate in the elongated aperture in the front plate, and said lug being provided with a flanged portion which together with the body of said block permit of the sliding of the clamp block longitudinally of the aperture.- I
5. In a clamp of the class described, a front plate of approximately triangular form and aside plate arranged ataight angles to said front plate, said front plate being provided with an elongated aperture which ranges at an angle to the side plate and the lower end portion of which is enlarged atone side, the top of the front plate is provided with an outwardly directed face plate ranging in' an inclined position, and the face of which is provided with a longitudinal bead, a clamp blockthe face of which is provided with a plurality of teeth and one side thereof with a projecting lug adapted to pass through and operate in the said lug for preventing the displacement of said clamp block from said front plate.
6. In a clamp of the class described, an L-shaped-body portion at the top of which is a face plate, one side of the body portion being provided with an elongatedaperture arranged at an acute angle to the other side,
and a clamp block mounted in and movable longitudinally of'said aperture, said block being provided with means for preventing the transverse movementi'thereof in said aperture;
' 7. In aclampof the class described, an
L-shaped body portion at the top of which is a face plate and one "side of the body portion being provided with an elongated aperture, arranged'at an angle to the other side,
said other side of said body portion being provided at the top thereof with a projection which eXtends above the face plate and the my invention I have signed my name in front face of which is in the same plane as presence of the subscribing witnesses this the rear face of the first named side of the 10th day of August, 1918.
