COMB-CLEANER;
Specification of Letters Patent;
rammed Mar. 18, 1919.
Application filed December 26, 1917. Serial No. 208,925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER W. BUssn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Les Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb- Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toilet accessories and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a novel comb cleaner whereby foreign matter accumulated between the teeth of a comb can be quickly and thoroughly removed therefrom without doing injury to the comb.
Another and equally important object of the invention is to provide means for retaining the comb cleaning elements of the device in spaced relation in order that the same can be readily engaged thereibetween for cleaning:
Among other aims and objects of the invention may be recited, the provision of a device of the character mentioned with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production small, and efficiency and operation high.
The improvements in the details and arrangement of parts will be apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in connection with the specific descrip tion hereinafter contained, and wherein the prefered embodiment of the invention is disclosed for the purpose of imparting a, full understanding of the same.
In the drawings, I have shown a plan View of the improved device.
Having more particular reference to the drawings and in connection with which like reference characters will designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, land 2 represent the improved comb cleaning element retaining means, the retaining means or holder 1 being formed from a single length of wire bent upon itself to provide a looped body, one'side of which is slightly offset and provided with a plurality of curved fingers generally indicated by the numeral 3, while the opposite side of the holder is looped upon itself as at 4 to proor other flexible means, one end of which is secured to the uppermost finger 5 of the holder 2 while the remaining portion is passed alternately about the fingers 3 and the remaining fingers 5. By so arranging the strand, it will be understood that a plurality of com-b cleaning elements generally indicated by the numeral 6 are provided, which elements may be engaged between the teeth of a comb and the comb then moved thereover to cause the removal of all foreign matter accumulated therebetween. It is of course to be understood that the remaining end of the strand from .which the cleaning elements are composed is secured to the adjacent fingers 3 or 5 formed upon the holders 1 and 2 by knotting or otherwise engaging the same therewith.
When using the improved device, the looped portion 4 of the holder 1 is engaged over a hook, nail or other suitable support while the holder 2 is engaged by the hand of the user. The comb to be cleaned is held inthe other hand and engaged with the device in a manner to cause the arranging of the various cleaning elements 6 between the teeth of the same. By moving the comb backwardly and forwardly over the cleaning elements, all foreign matter will be thoroughly removed therefrom without doinginjury to the comb construction. Furthermore, by varying the position of the holder 2 with relation to the holder 1, that is by shifting the same laterally, the cleaning elements 6 may be more closely positioned with relation to each other, thus rendering the same applicable for use in connection with fine tooth combs or the like. The cleaning elements may be readily removed and others substituted therefor as it becomes necessary.- 7
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is Within the scope of my claim, I. consider witl i n the spirit of my invention.
I cla1m: A c'omlo cleaner ooin'prislng looped end pieces having looped fingers formedin'the' adjacent sides thereof, the inner portionsof Copies of this patent may be obtained for to/ provide" a, plurality;=ofjijuxtapesed cleaning elements.
In testimony Whereofl afiix my signature hereto.
