CANE-encamina APPARATUS.
Specification o1' Letters Patent. l
Application tiled August 19, 191B. Serial No. 250,595.
io eli whom it ma? concern'.l i y Bs it known t iat HENRY Hoeren, a tates of America, a resident or the city of St. Louis, State of i; Missouri, have invented certain newf'f and nseful'lmprovements in Cane-Crushing Apparatus, of ,which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming/a part of this s ecil'lcation.
l y invention re ates to improvements in cane crushing apparatus, and more particu` larly to a combination of elements including an ad'ustable chute whereby the cane to be cruche is conducted from the rolls of one crus-her or cane mill to the rolls of another erusher or cane mill. The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this tity of cane passing through the apparatus,
the quality of the cime and the texture of the crushingrolls, and the chute can be -easily adjusted while the apparatus is in operation, so the operator can experiment and at the Sametime observe the condition of the cane on the adjustable chiite. The combination of elements herein shown enables the delivery of cane to be controlled veiyeasily, and if the chute is properly adjusted the highest efiicieiicy can be obtained without choking the crushing rolls at the delivery end of the chute.
Figure I is a fragmentary verticalI section illustrating a cane crushing apjiaratus constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. II is a fragmentary plan view, partly in section, the intermediate portion of the apparatus being broken away.
Fig. 'III is a section taken approximately on the line III-III, Fig. l.
The apparatus herein shown comprises ro tatable crushing rolls 1', 2, 3 and 4, said rolls being arranged in pairs to crush the` cane passing between them and-,one pair be-A ing in advance of and lower than the other.
5o The crushing rolls may be'constructed in any suitable manner and they may bedriven by any suitable operating means.
The chute whereby the cane isy conducted from the upper pair ot' rolls to the lower pair comprises upright side walls 5 secured to stationary parts of the machine by means of screws 6 passing through sleeves 7, which lie between said side walls and the stationary parts. Thev bottom wall of the chute comprises an upper section 8 andxan adjust- Patented Mar. 18, 1919.
able under section 9, located adjacent to the lower roll 4, said adjustable underisection being overlapped by and extended from the lower margin of the upper section 8. The means for adj ustably securing the section 9 to the section 8 comprises bolts 10 passing through the lower margin of the upper section'8 and also through slots 12 in the adjustable under section, the heads of the bolts eing preferably eountersunk in the upper section. Side flanges 13,`provided with Slots 14, extend downwardly from the upper section 8 and lie adjacent to the side walls 5 of the chute. the slots 14, adj ustably secure the upper section8 to the fixed side walls 5. lIfhe upper end portion of the chute section 8 is secured by a pivot member 16, and it can be adjusted about tbe axis oi itspivot, as Will'be presentl y described. .17 designates an auxiliary chute leading from the roll 2 to the upper portion ot' the chute section 8, the lower edge of said auxiliary chute being extended over the upperiiiargin of said section 8, lso that the cane may pass freely from one chute vmember to the other.
g The means for simultaneously adjusting the chutel sections 8 and Q about the axis of the pivot 16 comprisesa pair of adjusting screws 18, passing through threaded bear` ings `19 and having their upper ends in engagement with seats 20,the latter being' secured to the chute section 8. 21 designates The bolts 15, passing through janinuts mounted "on the screws 18 andadapted toengage the'vixed bearings'lt), to lock the screws in the are adjusted.
. When' the crushing apparatusjis in o eran tion thecane acted upon by the rolls4 and 2 passes. forwardly from the chute and is depositions to which they Supports adjacent to Said slotted flanges, bolts passing through the Slots in Said flanges and secured to said supports, a pivotal support adjacent t0 the upper ond of said upper section, the upper section and tlie adjustable end section being movabley about vthe axis of said pivotal support, and adjusting s'cl'ews mounted below said upper sei'tion to In tcftimony that l. claim tlmfox'ugoing I hmaunto aiix my signature.
