To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MCLAREN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Dayton, county of Montgomery, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and usef ul Impro vements in; Ice- Cream-Cone Dispensers, of which the following is a. specification.

The present invention relates to means particularly adapted for dispensing ice cream cones or articles of similar cup-like form that are commonly packed in nested series in a single container or holder.

The object of the invention is to provide means by which an original package of such articles can be supported on a counter or table and the articles successively withdrawn therefrom, all of such articles being constantly protected from dust or other contaminating influences.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention;

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the casing or carton of a package of ice cream cones, the latter being arranged in nested form so that a relatively large number may be transported in a package of moderate dimensions. As shown, the carton 1 is, as usual, provided at its ends with flaps 3 which may be folded outwardly to open the end of the casing from which it is desired to withdraw the cones 2. Preferably,

erably the stand or support is made in the form of a box-like casing having an opening in one side which is normally closed by a swingingdoor 4. through which it is possible to reach the lowest cone 2 of the package which projects through the aperture in the top of the stand.

5 designates suitable yielding means shown as consisting of a plurality of light coiled-springs which extend across the aperture in the top of the stand in such relation as to engage the lowest cone 2 of the series with sufiicient force to support the same and the series of cones resting thereon. It will be understood that by a slight downward pull the lowest cone will be withdrawn from engagement with the springs 5 and the latter caused to automatically engage the next higher cone of the series.

The package of cones is retained in vertical posit-ion on the stand or support by suitable means. As shown, these means comprise a plate or block 7, which may be of metal having an aperture corresponding in form and size to the cross'sectional shape of the cone case 1 and this plate or block is adapted to rest on the outwardly bent end flaps at the, lower, open end of the casing 1 and clamp the same against the top of the supportingstand. Lateral movement of the package of cones is prevented and the open end thereof is retained in proper alinement with the aperture in the top of the support by providing on said support a plurality of upwardly extending pins 8 adapted to enter corresponding sockets or passages 9 in the block 7.

The maner of usin and the advantage of the means hereinbef ore described will be readily understood and appreciated. It will be seen that the invention provides a very simple means by which ice cream cones orsimilar articles may be dispensed from the original packages, without exposing any' \Vhen a package has been emptied another can be instantly substituted. The invention provides means whereby it is unnecessary to touch or directly handle the cones after the same have been packed in the cartons or cases at the factory until they are to be used. The advantage of this will be readily appreciated. The case or container in which the cones are packed at the factory is utilized as a part oi the dispensing apparatus so that the number or parts and cost thereof is reduced to a minimum.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:-

1. An apparatus for dispensing articles of the character referred to comprising a stand or support having a top provided With a suitable aperture, a carton or case having its lower end open, and communicating With the aperture in the stand top and havinglaterally extending flaps at said lower end, means for pressing each of said flaps close against the top of the stand surrounding the aperture therein and thus holding the 4 carton or case in position on the stand, and

efiectually closing the same against the entrance of dust, and means arranged to support a series of nested articles Within the carton and permit the successive Withdrawal thereof through the aperture in the stand top.

2. An apparatus for dispensing articles of the character referred comprising a stand or support having a top provided with a suitable aperture a carton or case having its lower end open, and communicating with the aperture in the stand top, and having laterally extending flaps said lower end; an apertured block adapted to be slipped freely over the outer end of the carton and clamping the at the lower end thereof against the top of the stand to completely protect the interior of the carton from the entrance of dust, means for pre- Venting movement of the carton and said block laterally of the stand, and means arranged to support a series of nested articles within the carton and permit the successive Withdrawal thereof through the aperture in the stand top.

3. An apparatus for dispensing articles of the character referred to comprising a stand or support having an aperture formed in its top and provided with a plurality of upwardly extending studs, a carton or case having its lower end open and communicating with the aperture in the stand top and having laterally extending flaps at said open end said flaps being separated one from an other to straddle the said studs, a block surrounding the lower end of the carton and engaging said studs, and clamping said laps close against the top of the stand, and means arranged to support a series of nested articles Within the carton and permit the successive Withdrawal thereof through the aperture in the stand top.
