a motor-vehicle comprising a hood which overlaps the top and side ed es of and extends forwardly from the das -board and is employed in serving as a coverfor the engine of the vehicle and this invention pertains more especially to an attachment comprising a trough arranged transversel of the u per portion of the outer side ofy the dashcard and a water-tight joint formed between the upper end of the inner side ortion of the trough and the dash-boar so that any water paing to the inner side of -the dash-board, atthe joint vformed between the t0p edge of thedash-board and the top of the aforesaid hood, shall be received by said trough and conducted toward the sides of the hoodand out of the way of any electric wiring or electrical connections or devices that may be applied, under said trough,
to the dash-board.
The primary object of this invention is to keep water, that may find passage to the outer side of thedash-board'from between the top edge of the dash-board andthe hereinbefore mentioned hood, away from -said electrical connections or devices. t
Another object'is to facilitate the appllcation of my improved draining attachment to the dash-board, to expedite the assemblage of the component parts Aof said attachment,"to have said'attachment simple and durable in construction, and to render any mexnber of said attachmentv readily renewab e.
With these objects in view, and to attain any other object hereinafter appearing, this invention consists in certain features 0f construction, and combinations and'rclativev arrangements of parts,hereinafter described in this specification, ointed out in the claims, and illustrated inthe accompanying drawings. y l l In said drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section takencentrally through the dashboard and through the rear portion of the hood which straddles the dash-board and through my improved draining attachment applied to the outer side ofthe upper portion of the dash-board. My unproved draining attachment for saiddash-board preferably comprises a plate C arranged opposite and abutting against' the forward or outer side ofthe upper portion of the dash-board adjacent the top Ved e and centrally between the side edges -of t e dash-board. Said plate is secured tothe dash-board in any approved manner .and adapted to be employed in receiving the screw-threaded rear end of a stay-rod D employed in tying the radiator (not shown) arranged at the forward end of the hood B to the dash-board and screwed into said plate. .Said plate has upwardly converging side `edges 6, as shown in Fig. 4 and 1n dotted lines, Fig. 2.
My improved draining attachment also comprises two bars E arranged transversely of the outer side 'of the upper portion of the dash-board between the plate C and o posite side edges respectively of the ashboard and spaced downwardly from the top edge of the dash-board. Each bar E is somewhat inclined and extends downwardly in the direction of the adjacent side of the hood B. Each bar E (see Fig. 4) has its inner transverse edge 7 inclinedand facing downwardly to conform to and abutting against the adjacent side ed e of the plate C .which has a downwardly acingi shoulder C overlapping the top edge of sal bar, and said shoulder, said side edge of said plate and said edge of said bar serve therefore to facilitate the positioning of said bar durin the application of the bar to the dash-'boar Each bar E has its outer transverse edge 8 ioo lelectrical connections or appliances,

Preferably the lower part l5 of said portion of the trough extends downwardly and forwardly from the bars E. and the outer sideportion lf3 ot the trough extends upwardly and forwardly and in front of the upper part i@ of the inner side portion of the trough, and hence the contour of the trough in cross-section and the, arrangement of the. outer side portion of the trough relative to the inner side portion of the trough arp such that there is little liability of the passage oi' water, which may find access to the. top surfare of the body of cement H. across instead of into the ,rough. lt will be observed that the side edges 6 and shoulders C of the plate C are arranged as required to oppose any force tending to swing or move the bars E downwardly toward each other, and the trough G bly-the overlapping, by its flanges l2, of the upwardly facing inclined outer transverse edges 8 of said bars, ties the outer ends of said bars together and opposes any force tending to displace Said bars endwise from said plate. lt will be observed therefore that the plate C ado'rds material support to the bars E and trough G, but, of course, the trough is preferably also secured tothe dash-board by screws l which have their Shanks extending through the upper part of the inner side portion of the trough and through the bars E and into the dash-board and have their hea-ds abutting against the forward side of said portion ofthe trough. Said screws are arranged higher than the outer side portion of the trough for convenience in the manipulation of a screw-driver employed in driving the screws into place. l'twill also be observed that the upwardly facing inclined outer transverse edges 8 of the bars E form seats, as desired, for the trough which is mounted, at its flanges 12, on said seats preparatory to the application of the screws l.

The combination, lwith the .dash-board 'of a motor-vehicle, and a hood straddling and extending forwardly from the dashboard, of a plate arranged opposite the top edge and centrally between the side edges of and secured to the dash-board and having upwardly facing inclined side edges, tiwo bars arranged transversely of the outer side of the upper portion of the dash-board between said" plate and opposite side edges respectively of the dash-board and each having an upwardly facing inclined outer transversei edge, a trough arranged at the outer sides and extending longitudinally of said bars, and means above said bars for eifecting the drainage, into the trough, of water' passing to the outer side of the dash-board vfrom between the lhood and the top edge of the dash-board, each end of the trough having a flange overlapping the outer transverse edge of the adjacent bar, and the inner transverse edge of each bar being inclined .and facing downwardly and 'abutting against -the adjacent upwardly facing inclined side edge of the aforesaid plate.

The combination, with the dash-board of a Inotor-vehicle, and a hood straddling and extending forwardly from the dashboard, of a plate arranged opposite the outer side of the dash-board adjacent the top edge and centrally between the side edges of and secured to the dash-board and hav-` ing upwardly facing inclined side edges, two bars arranged transversely of the outer side of the upper portion of the dashboard between said plate and opposite side edges respectively of the dash-board, each bar having a downwardly facing inclined inner transverse edge abutting against the adj acent side edge of said plate; a trough arranged at the outer sides and extending longitudinally of said bars, and means above said bars for effecting the drainage, into the trough, of water passing to the outside of the dash-board from between the hood and the top edge of the dash-board, each end of the trough having a flange overlapping thev .the top edge of said bar.
