To all whom tmagy concern Be it known that I, FRANK A. SoHonNL, a citizen of the 'United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Holding Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a device or attachment particularly adapted for the use of a seamstress or tailor, for the purpose of holding work while operatingthereon. For example, it may be used to hold cloth while it is being ripped or cut, or while basting threads are being cut; and it may also be used ,to hold one end of a piece of work while it is beingsewed or otherwise worked upon.

The device comprises a clamp which may be fixed to the top of a sewing machine or other table, and this clamp is provided with a support or projection to receive pins whereby the cloth may be fixed to said support and held in a raised position above the surface 'of the table. The construction of the device would be more fully evident from the accompanying drawings and the following description.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.

Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a U-shaped clamp frame, the lower arm of which is provided with a screw 7 by means of which it may be secured to the edge of a table 8 or the like, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper arm of the clamp, which fits upon the upper surface of the table, is extended at its end to form a vertical or upright standard or part 9, at the top of which is a disk or head 10, extending horizontally. The clamp frame, standard and disk, may conveniently be made of a single piece of heavy sheet metal, cut and pressed to the desired shape. and by the means shown and described, the disk 10 is supported above the surface of the table.

When the pins are so inserted, the cloth may be hooked or engaged therewith and then stretched over the surface of the table, the device holding one end of the cloth and the hand of the operator holding the other end. In ripping a seam for example, one end of the seam can be engaged with this attachment and the other end held by the operator in one hand, and the ripping knife drawn quickly along the seam. Any other work may be held in a similar manner, and

the cloth can either be engaged over the projecting ends of the pins, or can be pinned to the disk between the bosses.

The device will be found very useful for the intended purpose, and modifications may be made in the structure, within the scope of the invention.

I claim:

1. A device of the character described, comprising a clamp having upper and lower arms, the former having a vertical standard thereon, a head at the top of the standard, projecting horizontally therefrom, and a pin engageable with the head and adapted to fasten a piece of work thereto.

2. A device of the character described, comprising a clamp having a frame with. paraller arms one of which has a standard at one end and a laterally projecting head supported thereby, the head being provided with perforated bosses adapted to receive a pin to attach a piece of work thereto.
