Description

JA UREGUI. EAR CLOSING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED FEB. l3. 19H.
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY GKBINO JAUREGUI, 0E BRIDGEPOBT, CONNECTICUT.
EAR-CLOSING- DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
Application filed. February 13, 1917. Serial No. 148,379.
and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ear- Closing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an ear silencer and the primary object is to provide a pair of ear plugs adapted to be held in the ears by suitable clamp elements embracing the head of the wearer.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide means for excluding noise and disturbing sounds'so thatstudents and other persons desiring to concentrate on a particular subject matter in libraries, schools and similar places may do so without being disturbed by the surrounding conditions which produce noise and disturbing sounds.
The above and additional objectsare accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the preferred embodiment and in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which;
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation.
Fig. 3 is a View of the structure on an enlarged scale.
Referring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the frame 1 consists of an inverted U-shaped piece of suitable material having its terminals provided with screw threaded openings in which adjusting screws 2 are arranged. Each screw carries a knob 3 by which the screw may be rotated for obtaining the necessary horizontal adjustment.
'The terminal of each screw is reduced in diameter to provide the shank 4 the terminal of which carries a head 5 and'mounted upon the head is a soft rubber plug 6 which is adapted to fit snugly in the ear of the wearer thereby excluding sounds and noises.
The top of the frame 1 is provided with an opening through which the stud 7 is screw-threadedly adjustable whereby the sup orting finger 8 carried by the lower end Y of t e screw, may be adjusted toward and away from the top of the head of the user.
A finger nut 9 is screw-threadedly mounted on the nut 7 and is adapted to engage a washer interposed between the nut and the frame so that a binding action will occur when the nut is moved on the stud to tightly engage the washer whereby casual or accidental movement of the stud will be prevented when the adjustment has been obtained.
In use, the frame 1 will be placed over the head of the user and the-screw 7 will be adjusted until the fingers rest upon the top of the head for supporting the frame at the proper height whereby the plugs may be disposed in alinement with the ears of the user. The adjusting screws 2 will then be properly adjusted for moving the plugs 6 into the ears and all sounds will thereby be excluded so that the user will be undisturbed. The frame and the other parts of the device may be made of extremely li ht material so that no discomfort will be felt while using the device.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a very simple and durable ear silencer has been provided, the details of which embody the preferred form. I desire it to be understood however that slight changes inthe minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
I claim:
An ear closing device adapted for attachment to the head of the user, comprising a U-shaped strip having its terminals provided with adjustable ear lugs, the said frame intermediate its ends eing provided with a vertically adjustable screw-threaded stud having supporting fingers depending therefrom for engagement with the top of the head of the user, the said fingers being extended into the space embraced by the said U-shaped frame, and a finger nut mounted upon the said screw threaded stud above the said frame and adapted to be moved to bind against the said frame for maintaining the said stud in adjusted position.
In te'stimon whereof I afiix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
GABINO JAUREGUI.
