' JOI-IN F. W'HITE, OF KARNES CITY, TEXAS.
HAY-PRESS;
Application filed August 9, 1918.
To'aZZ whom #may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN F. VHrTm'a citizen of the United Sta-tes, residing at Karnes City, in the county of YKarnes and Y State of Texas, have invented new and use- Vvide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a. minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated Vin the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section.
Fig. 4 is a sec-tion of the operating means on the line 1 4: of Fig. 2.
As shown in these views the invention Y comprises the press box 1 having the hopper 2 in its top andthe bale box 3 extending from one end thereof. The top 4l of this bale box is flexibly connected with the press, and the upward movementA of the rear end thereof is controlled by the bar 5 under pressure of the springs 6. 7 represents the spring dogs preventing the re-bound of the binding block 8 on the return stroke of the plunger. 9 represents the plunger providedVVV with the plunger rod 10.
11 represents the operating member which is pivotally mounted on the platform'12 by the bolt 13, said platform being carried by the beams 1-1 forming extensions of the lower part of the press.
Specification of Iietters Patent. 1
Serial No. 249,149.
The o eratinO' member 11 is com osed of nected together by the diametrically arranged bolts 17 and sleeves 18 on said bolts hold said parts in spaced relation. As will be seen the bolts 17 and the main bolt 13 are in the same vertical plane. Each of the parts 15 and 16 is provided with a cam or race-way 19 which consists of two substantially parallel part-s connected together at the ends by the curved parts. A pin 20 on the plunger rod 10 engages said cams and said plunger rod is provided with a dog 21 which is adapted to engage with the sleeve 18 when the operating member 11 is rotated so that the plunger rod is moved forward to carry the plunger head into pressing action. As will be seen the dog is slightly in ad Vance of the pin 2O so that when the dog is engaging the rearmost sleeve at the beginning of` a pressing stroke the pin will be at the beginning of the curved parts of the cams. Thus when the operating member is moved the dog will pivot on the sleeve and the pin will be engaged by the curved part of the cams, so that said pin will pass from one side of the cam to the other in a half revolution of the operating member. On the continual rotation 'of said member the extreme end of the plunger rod will be pressed outwardly by the other sleeve, while the lirst sleeve will pass from the dog so that the spring 22, connecting said plunger rod with the platform, will cause said rod to spring back into normal position with the dog engaging the other sleeve. In this operation the pin 20 passes along the parallel parts of the cams. It will thus be seen that a quick return of the plunger is secured.
lVhile the operating device may be rotated by any suitable means I show a sweep 23 secured to the top part of the operating member by the bolts 13 and 21, said sweep being braced by the beams 25 engaged by the bolts 17.
What I claim is 1. A baling press comprising a-press box,
2. A baling press comprising a press box,
