SWEAT-BAND STICKER, MARKER, AND FINISHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
Application filed September 27, 1917. Serial No. 193,453.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARLOS N. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at 240 Academy street, South Orange, New Jersey, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Sweat-Band Stickers, Markers, and Finishers,'of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stickers for hat or cap sweat bands and the ornamentation of said bands.
The exact size of hats was formerly obtained by means of a draw string or ribbon which was run through the sweat band and this ribbon or strin was tied in a bow knot at the place where the open ends of the hat band were brought together and there by fastened. V
This how knot made such an attractive finish to the joined ends of the sweat band, that when hat-s were manufactured in exact sizes and there was no further necessity for using the ribbon and bow nevertheless the use of the bow was continued merely as an ornament or finish for the joined ends of the sweat band.
The demand for an ornament or finish for the joined ends of the sweat band has thus become well established, but the cost of this has constantly increased since the beginning of the European war so that it now is a material item and the question has been to find a less expensive substitute.
This problem is solved by this invention which combines in a sticker for fastening together the open ends of a hat sweat band an ornament and a source and size marker, thereby not only reducing the cost of mate rial required for these purposes but also effecting a large reduction in the labor item in connection with the trimming of hats.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a cross section of a hat showing the device in use. Fig. 2' is a back View of the device in use on a. hat sweat band. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal cross section of the device.
In the drawings 1 represents a fastening portion of the device which is adapted to secure the two open ends of the sweat band 2 together in back at their joint 3 by means of any of the well known adhesive materials and an ornamental portion 4 of the device is made integral therewith and adapted to fold back on the fastening portion 1 and be secured to the front side of the sweat band 2 over the joint 3 by means of a suitable adhesive. 5 represents an ornamental design which may be printed, embossed or affixed in any suitable manner to the ornamental portion 4 and this'may be a trade or source mark and a size mark 6 is also shown printed on the ornamental design 5 and this may be afiixed thereto in any suitable manner.
I claim:
In a hat sweat band a sticker adapted to seal the meetin ends of the band on the back thereof an turning back on itself complete the ornamental finish of the meeting ends of the band on the front of the same.
' In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
C ARLOS N. CLARK.
