Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 2, 1918. Serial No. 220,089.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, BEN Ennns'r MIL- MORE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 1231 Messier street, in the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aeroplanes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the same.
The invention relates to improvements in aeroplanes, and the object of the invention is to provide a type of machine having three planes, thereby permitting the transportation of several persons. The machine is also provided with movable emergency lanes in the front thereof, these planes bemg so arranged that should the machine plunge headforemost toward the earth they could be operated so as to steady the machine and restore it to its normal position.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention.

Fig. 3 is a top view of the machine.
Fig. 4 is a cross section view on line 4-4 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the rudder and directing planes, a portion of the frame being broken away to show the means to actuate the said directing planes.
Fig. 6 is a view of a portion of the top or hearing plane, showing the movable emer- .qency plane secured thereto. together with its actuating means.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Tn the drawings. is the main or bearing plane suitably supported by a frame 2. The main plane is preferably curved in shape. as disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2. and 3 is the intermediate plane secured to the bottom of the frame 2 and supported by the frame 4 which is preferably smaller than the frame 2.
5 is the bottom plane or flooring on which is located the engine 6, the said frame being supported on the wheels 7. On the plane 5, in the rear of the engine, at 8. is located a space suillcient to carry one or more persons.
9 is a basket supported below the main plane 1 and adapted to carry one or two airmen. The main plane 1 is provided with an outwardly projecting portion 10 in which are provided observation openings 11.
At the rear end of the frames 2 and 4 is provided a smaller rear plane 12, and 13 is a rudder hingedly secured to said plane 12 at right angles thereto. 14: and 15 are movable directing planes on each side of said plane 12 and are mounted on the shaft 16, 17 is a lever rigidly secured to said shaft 16, to which is attached the directing cable 18. Said cable 18 passes over the pulley 19 and is directed into the basket 9.
The rudder 13 is operated adjacent to the drivers seat by the cable 20 which passes over the pulleys 21 and is also directed to the basket 9.
22 are emergency planes pivotally connected at 23 to the front of the main plane 1, the said plane being operated by the cable 24 whichis secured to the planes 22 at 25 and passes over the pulleys 26, 27, 28 and 29, the cable 24 being also directed to the basket 9'where it can be conveniently operated by the airmen.
The rear ends of the frames 2 and 4 are supported by the bracket 30, on which is mounted the wheel 31.
The general construction of the aeroplane is somewhat similar to the monoplane or biplane, but it is provided with a supplementary plane which is adapted to carry the motor. the mechanic and the passengers. It is further provided with the emergency planes in the front of the machine, which may, should the machine plunge headforemost by accident, be operated as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
What I claim is An aeroplane comprising a frame, a main top plane mounted on said frame. a middle plane mounted below said top plane, of smaller size than the aforesaid plane. suitably supported by said frame; and a bottom plane below said middle plane, supported by said frame, a motor mounted on said bottom plane, a space provided on said bottom plane to carry passengers; a basket carried by said top plane, provided for the airmen; a horizontal rear plane, a vertical rudder pivot ally mounted on said rear plane, horizontal directing planes supported by said rear Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this plane, and movable emergency planes sesixteenth day of July, 1917.
