To all whom vit may concern Be it known that I, HENRY C. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and tate of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Stops, of which the following is aV specification.

This invention .relates to an improvement in stops for furniture drawers, and has for its object to `provide such a construction that the longitudinal movements of a drawer will be limited, and particularly that its removal from accidental causes or otherwise, when drawn outwardly, will normally be prevented, but to have such an arrangement of parts that removal will be permitted and that while being removed from a desk or other support, it may be maintainedy in a horizontal position. Another object is to provide a stop for drawers which will consist of few and simple parts so that manufacture will be practical and economical.

With the above objectsin view, the invention presents a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that changes in form, size, proportion and minor details may be made within the scope of the invention as claimed.

In the drawing, Figure 1 lis a plan view of a drawer and its housing, parts being in section. Fig. 2 is a side view of a drawer. Fig. 8 shows a side view of the drawer when drawn outwardly from a desk or other article of furniture.

Referring now to the drawing for a more particular description, the invention is illustrated in connection with a desk 4 or similar article having upright partitions 5 between which the drawer 6 may normally have horizontal, slidable movements.

For purposes of the invention one of the side walls a of the drawer is provided with a pair of apertures 7 and 8, the aperture 7 preferably being disposed adjacent to the inner end Z of the drawer, and the aperture 8 being disposed intermediate the aperture' 7 and the front end o of the drawer.

Numeral 9 indicates a flat spring disposed in line with apertures 7 and 8 and secured upon the inner side of a wall a of the drawer, one of its ends being secured to said wall by screws or equivalent keepers 9', said spring being provided intermediate its ends with a projection 10 adapted to engage in the aperture 8 and having a terminal hook or detent 11 disposed within and, by force of the spring, projecting outwardly of the e which prevents a further movement, the

parts then being substantially in the posi# tionshown in Fig. 3. And when disposed in the last named position, the drawer may be removed from the desk, if desired; and for this purpose the spring may be moved inwardly by manually pressing the projection l0 inwardly of the aperture 8 which causes the detent 11 to be withdrawn from the slot or groove 12.-

One of the advantages to be derived b use of the invention is the feature whic permits the drawer to be maintained in a horizontal position while it has a slidable, outward movement, this being a matter of importance when it is required to remove the drawer from the desk, since its contents l will not become displaced.

By referrin to Fig. 1 it will 'be seen that the walls of t e aperture 8 are formed outwardly divergent so that access may be convenient for moving the projection 10 inwardly against the force of the spring 9, and in operation, for removing the drawer from the desk, as is often required, the inward pressure against said projection, as above mentioned, will cause the detent to move out of the slot, and a removal of the drawer may be effected, as is obvious while the drawer is maintained in a horizontal position.

It will be noted that the inner terminal of the slot 12 operates to limit the inward, slidable movement of the drawer, so that when the latter is closed its front end will be disposed in line with the front part of the desk, as shown in Fig. 1.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,- v
