MOVING STAIRWA Y, SWITGHBACK-SLIDE, AND AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 28, 1918. Serial No. 225,194.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD PIoKABD, of 24 Warkworth avenue, Whitley Bay, in the county of Northumberland, England, shipyard plater, subject of the King of Great Britain andIreland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Moving Stairways, Switchback- Slides, and Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to moving stairways, switchback slides and amusement devices The object of this invention is to pI'OVlde an improved amusement device.
ing from the upper platform downward,.
and a conveyer at the foot of the chute.
Referring to the drawings filed here with Figs. 1 and 1 are diagrammatic elevations of one form of amusement device made in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan thereof;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a car;
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of a car;
Fig. 5 is a plan of car frame.
In one form of amusement device made in accordance with this invention there are four stairways. a b c 05. side by side centrally disposed and two chutes e f and g h on each side respectively. The stairways and chutes are mounted on a staging j; at
' the foot of each stairway is a loadin platform is k, and at the bottom of each 0 ute is a conveyer m m. At the top of the staging are disposed the gangways n o p g of the four chutes, one leading from the side of each stairway; The chutes may be spiral or otherwise curved and set to any desired t It being adapted to travel on a more narrow gage than the rear pair. A seat 1 is pivoted at 2 to each frame 8 and a spring 3 connected to the seat 1 and to the frame 8 is adapted to hold the seat in its horizontal or normal osition and to return it to that position a er it has been tilted. On the seat is a cleat 4 connected to a trigger bolt 5 by a link 6. On the frame 8 is pivoted a trigger 7 adapted to engage a striker plate 8 on the staging or track. The trigger is kept in its normal position'by av spring 9.
In operation the'cars are loaded one by one and ascend step by step. When a car has ascended to' a position opposite a chute the trigger 7 strikes the striker plate 8 which causes the trigger bolt 5 to be drawn, whereupon th seat 1 is tilted and the passenger tipped on to the chute down which he slides, a suitable mat or tray being provided if desired. On reaching the bottom of the chute he lands on a conveyer m which moves him away to give room for the next arrival.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An amusement device comprising. a moving stairway formed of a continuous element, step like members mounted onsaid continuous element, a platformat the foot of said stairway, a platform at thetop of.
said stairway, seats disposed on the step like members, means for tilting said seats at the upper platform, a chute leading from the upper platform downward and a conveyer at the foot of the chute.
2. An amusement device comprising a moving stairway formed ofa continuous element, step like members mounted on said continuous element, a platform at the foot of the said stairway,-a platform at the top of said stairway, seats disposed on the step like members, said seats eing pivoted to said step like members, a spring connection 1 between said seat and said step like members adapted to hold the seat in its horizontal posltion, and means for tiltingsaid seat at the upper platform, a chute leading from the upper platform downward, and a conveyer at the foot of the chute.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name.
HAROLD PICKARD. f
