FILM-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed JuIy as, 1918. Serial No. mp2s.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. BELLE- MERE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of J ackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Film-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvemehts in supports for photographic negatives. It relates particularly to a device which is adapted to support photographic films. during the developing, fixing or washing of the same. 4
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a support of the kind described, which is simple in construction, 'cheap to manufacture, which is durable and not liable to get out of order, which is easily operable, and which will permit of the simultaneous treatment of a. large number of negatives,
while holding them spaced apart.
My invention provides further a construction which excludes light from the developing tank.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanfing drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my, invention,
Fig. 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section of a tank provided with my improvement.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of my improved negative supports, showing portions of a numbenof films supported thereby.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates an ordinary rectangular developing or fixing tank having a cover comprising a plurality of sections 2 and 3, each 'of which at each edge is provided with a longitudinal flange or tongue 4 and a longitudinal groove 5, the latter being adapted to receive the overlapping flange 4 of the adjacent cover section.
As shown in Fig. 1, the sections 2 and 3 are similar in construction but are reversed in position, to enable them to overlap each other. i
Each of the sections 2 and 3 is adapted to be mounted transversely on the open upper end of the tank 1.
An inverted U shaped support is attached to each of the sections 2 and 3. As shown in Fig. 2, said support comprises an arcuate horizontal portion 6 which is preferably embedded in the top of the section to which it is attached, and two arms 7 which extend dow'nwardly through the section, and, at a suitable distance below'the under side of the section, are provided with two parallel horizontal portions 8, which are provided each with corrugations 9, preferably vertical, and which are adapted to support and space apart a plurality of negatives, such as films 10, which are provided each with two perforations through which the portions 8 are adapted to extend.
For holding the fihns from slipping accidentally from the portions 8, I preferably provide suitable holding means, preferably Patented Feb. 18, 1919. i
comprising a wire having a vertical .portion 11, which extends through the s'ection2 or 3 which supports it and which at its upper end is provided with a horizontal portion 12,. which is embedded in the upper side of the supporting section.
The wire 11 is provided with an eye 13, 7
.hard resilient material which will not be harmfully affected by the action of the liquid in which the wires are immersed. The non-corrosive wire known as Monel is a wire which is suitable for the purpose, although any other wire which has suitable resiliency and strength and which is notv liable to corrosion by the liquids commonly used for developing and fixing, may be employed.
In operating my invention, the wire 11 is sprung outwardly at its lower end, so as to free the free ends of the corrugated portions 8, after which the perforated films 10.
may be slipped onto the corrugated portions 8, the films being disposed respectively in the depressed portions of the corrugations 9 I by which the films are held spaced apart from each other. Each film 10 may have detachably fastened to it in the usual manner a weight 17 to hold the film from curling.
After the films have been placed on the corrugated portions 8, the lower portion of the wire 11 is permitted to swing tothe initial position shown in Fig. 2, with the portions 8 extending respectively through the eyes 13 and 14. I
When the films have been mounted on the supports, as above described, they are lowered into the tank 1 in the developing or fixing solution, and the sections 2 and 3. are permitted to rest on the top of the tank 1, in the overlapping position, as shown in Fig. 1. The dimensions of the sections 2 and 3 are such that in the operative position, they will completely cover the open end of the tank 1, thereby'excluding the lightfrom the interior of the tank. Preferably the sections 2 and 3 are madeof some suitable wood.
To remove the films from the portions 8, the lower end of the wire 11'is swung outwardly clear of said portions, after. which the films may be slipped therefrom.
As the horizontal portions-6' and 12 areembedded in the upper surface of the. sec
, tions 2 and 3,'and the wires 7 and 11 are tightly fitted in the sections, said wires will be firmly held attached to their supporting sections without the em'pl-oym'ent of any auxiliary securing devices. V
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims,
may be made without departing from thespirit of my invention.
What I claim is 1. In a film treating apparatus, a film tank, a cover therefor comprising a plurality of sections, and means provided on each section for suspendin films.
2. In a film treatmg apparatus, a film tank, a cover therefor comprising a plurality of independent overlapping sections, and means provided on each section for supporting fihns.
3. In a film treating apparatus, a film tank cover comprising a plurality of inde-' pendent sections, oneof which is provided with means for supporting films.
4. In a film treating apparatus, a film tank cover comprising a plurality of independent overlapping sections, one ofwhich is provided with means for supporting films.
5. Ina film hanger, a film support comprisin a supporting member having two parallel arms having two substantially horizontal portions provided with corresponding free ends adapted to receive films thereon.
6. In a film hanger, a film support comprising a supporting member having two parallel corrugated ,arms provided with corresponding free ends adapted to receive films thereon.
7. In a film hanger, a film support ,hav
' a cover section'adapted to cover a tank and from which said support depends. v
8. In a film hanger, a film support having a horizontal corrugated-arm provided with 11. In a. film hanger, a film support comprising a supporting member, a wire at tached thereto and having a horizontal por tion provided with a free end and adapted to receive films thereon, and means attached to said member for releasably supporting said free end and for holding films from slipping therefrom. 1 v
12. In a film hanger, a film support com prisin a supporting member, a wire att'ach V thereto having two parallel arms having horizontal portions for supporting fihns provided with two corresponding free ends over which the films are adapted to be slipped, andreleasable means for holding the films on said arms.
13. In a film hanger, a film support comprising a supporting member, a wire attached thereto having two parallel arms provided with horizontal corrugated portions having two corresponding free ends over which films are adapted to be slipped, Y
15. In a film hanger, a cover section adapted to covera tank, a wire attached thereto having two parallel arms provided with horizontal corrugated portions having corresponding free ends over which films are adapted to be slipped, and a resilient member carried by said cover section and having means for releasably engaging said free ends for holding the films on said arms.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
