FREDERICK B. COOK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LABEL-HOLDER.
Application led November 5, 1915, Serial No. 59,821.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. Coon, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Label-Holders, of which the following is a specification. l
This invention relates to improvements 1n label holders, and more particularly such a holder for direction and time-table cards for mail chutes and the like. In such holders as heretofore constructed, it has been necessary to employ straps, bolts, hooks, etc., in the construction of the same, thereby producing an expensive and cumbersome holder, and an object ofthe present invention, therefore, is to provide such a structure which will dispense with the use of such means, and wherein the same may be readily secured to the front wall or panel of a mail chute, and also whereby the cards may be readily removed and new cards placed therein when desired. A further object is to provide such a device which is neat in appearance and simple in construction.
With these and other objects in View, my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, and will be more fully hereinafter described with reference thereto, and finally pointed out in the claims.
ln the drawings,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved holder in place on a mail chute;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing the retaining frame partly removed;
Fig. 3 is a rear view thereof;
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line A-A of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view on the line B*-B of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, this label holder comprises a stationary supporting back plate 10 and a front frame 16 sliding over said back plate, the label and glass plate being held between said members. The plate 10 preferably rectangular in shape, is designed to be rigidly attached by glue, cement or other means to the outer face of the outer wall of a mail chute or' other object. This back plate constitutes the supporting member of the label holder, and it is preferably provided with a rec- Specication of Letters Patent. y
Patented Feb. 11, 1919.
Renewed August 6, 1918. Serial No. 248,641.
A label card 15 containing directions as to the proper use of the chute, a table of the time collections, advertising matter and other information is placed in front of the back plate or frame 10 against the outset margin thereof and a glass plate 14: is placed over said card.
A rectangular holding frame 16 is adapted to slide over the stationary back plate 10 and hold the label card 15 and glass plate 14: in front thereof. This holding frame has on parallel sides hooked flanges which engage the outset margins 12 of the fixed back plate 10. These hooked flanges comprise rearward flanges 17 and inturned lips 19. These lips 19 Slide between the margins 12 of the plate 10 and the wall of the mail chute. The holding frame 16 is open at the bottom and provided at its top with a hooked flange 18-20 or other stop which engages the top outset margin of the back plate 10, the downward lip 2() of said flange shutting between the chute wall and said margin. The sliding' frame may be made slightly resilient so as to snugly engage the stationary plate.
Vith the use of this construction a neat, simple and substantial holder is provided, which may be readily secured to a mail chute or other structure where such holder might be desirable, and with which the cards may 'be quickly changed.
I have illustrated a preferred and satisfactory form of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.
I claim 1. A label holder for mail chutes comprising a back plate adapted to be fixed to the mail chute and having an outset margin adapted to form a gnideway between it and the face of the chute, and an outer sliding holding frame having hooked flanges on parallel sides adapted to pass behind said outset margin and to hold a card or label in front thereof.
2. A label holder for a mail chute coinprising a back plate adapted to be ixed to a inail chute and having an outset margin provided With a forward flange, a glass plate fitting Within said flange and adapted to hold a label card against said outsety Inargin, and an outer Ysliding holding frame having hooked anges on parallel sides adapted to pass behind said outset margin and to hold said glass plate and label Card in front thereof.
3. A label card holder :for a yInail Chute comprising a back plate adapted to be iixed to the mail chute and having an outset margin adapted to forni a'guideway between it and the face of the Chute, and an outer slidingholding frame having hooked langes on parallel sides adapted to pass behind said outset margin and to hold a card or label in front thereof, and a stop flange at the top engaging said back plate. y e
In testimony, that I claim the'foregoing as iny invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing-Witnesses.
