GREGOR S. I-IENBIKSON, OF FORT RANSOM, NORTH DAKOTA.
STOCK-RELEASER.
Fort Ransom, in the county of Ransom,
State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stock- Releasers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stock releasers and is directed more particularly to devices for releasing horses, cattle and other stock from the stalls in which they are confined in case of fire or for other emergency.
An object of the present invention resides in the provision of an appliance of the above nature which embodies mechanism of novel construction and manipulation for releasing simultaneously all of the animals in a line of stalls.
IVith the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawin Figure 1 is an elevational view of a line of stalls with the invention associated therewith and in normal position.
Fig. 2 is an end view.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the appliance.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 with the parts in released position; and,
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the crank end of the device showing its position of release.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, there is shown a series of stalls A provided with the usual manger-s B. Extending longitudinally of the line of stalls and projecting atone end beyond a wall of the building in which they are located, is a tubular member 11 preferably in the form of an iron pipe of suitable strength and dimensions. This pipe 11 is disposed abovethe front wall of the mangers and is held in such position by means of metal straps 12 passed therearound and secured to the manger as clearly illustrated. pipe 11 at spaced intervals, are slots 13, one. for each of the stalls A, the halter C, by which the animal Specification of Letters Patent.

the combination with a Patented Feb. M, 1919.
Serial No. 161,207.
is retained in the latter, passing through the corresponding slot and'having at its inner end a ring D for a purpose to appear.
Disposed within and extending throughout the length of the pipe 11 is a longitudinally movable rod 14 carrying a plurality of laterally directed and rigid hooks 15 one for each of the stalls, the bills of these hooks are similarly directed with respect to the rod and each is disposed to enter the ring D of the corresponding halter C and hold the same normally against detachment from the pipe 11. Fixed in one end of the rod and holding the same centered in the pipe 11 is a circular bearing head 16, While rotatably mounted in the other end is a head 10, which is provided with a crank arm 17, and'further formed with a radial projection 18 extending oppositely from said arm.
Cam faces 19 are formed in said end of the pipe 11 for cooperation with the crank 17 and projection 18 whereby when the crank is rotated to the position shown in Fig. 5 the rod 14: will move longitudinally within the pipe and thus disengage the hooks 15 from the related rings D, the animals within the stalls being thereby released and free to escape from the building in case of fire or other emergency. In order to yieldably maintain the hooks 15 in their normal or holding position, a coil spring 20 is provided which encircles the rod between the pins 21 and 22 carried respectively by the rod and pipe, the crank 17 and projection 18 being thus at all times held in operative relation to the cam faces 19.
It will be understood that when the crank 17 is turned, any tendency of the rod 14 to turn therewith will be resisted through the engagement of the rings D against the ends of the slots 13, this engagement acting to limit any rotary movement of the hooks 15 with the rod, although, if desired, any well known means may be employed to prevent rotary movement of the rod while permitting its sliding movement.
What I claim is:
In a stock fastening and releasing device pipe having a transverse slot therein adapted to receive a halter ring 'therewithin, said pipe having oppositely arranged cam faces at one end, of a rod slidably mounted within the pipe, a hook carried by the rod and arranged to lie normally in position to extend transversely of the slot and in engagement With tion in position to Work over the other cam a halter ring disposed in the slot, at head face. 10 rotatably and slidably mounted Within that In testimony whereof, I affix my signature end of the pipe which carries the cam faces, in the presence of two Witnesses.
said head having a radial projection formed GREGOR S. HENRIKSON. thereon in position to Work over one of the Witnesses:
cam faces, and a crank carried by the head N. L. MrKKELsoN,
and extending oppositely from the projec- ED MIGKELSEN.
