To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that l, Lewis Lnlivisen, a subjector' the King of Great Britain, residing at Hamilton, in the county or Wentworth and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Fastry-Makino Devices, of which the following is a speci cation.
My invention relates to a machine for molding and baking what are termed and commonly known as ice-cream cones, and consists essentially of a number of seriesof centrally divided female dies,I the respective halves of each said series being hingedly secured each to the other at their lower end parts, an integral ulcrumed arm extending therefrom in one directiomand a handle extending therefrom in theopposite direction, corresponding male dies -together with a carrier therefor, an integral arm on the carrierpivotally connected to the arm on the female dies, and an integral handle extending from said carrier in the opposite direction, and parallel to the handle on the female dies, and a novel lock adapted to lock said handles together.
My invention has for its objects, first. to provide means in a vmachine of the class specified, whereby pastry cones may be molded and baked having embossed ornamental designs or lettering on their exteriors, and be easily and readily `Withdrawn from the die after baking, Without destroyingr or marriug said lettering in so doing, second, to provide a machine of this class to mold and bake anumber oie such cones at one operation, third, to afford facilities for the opening of the female dies to provide for the withdrawal of the nishedcone.
A further object is to provide such a machine being inexpensive to manufacture, having simplicity in its structure, and easy and simple to operate. Another object is to afford facilities for the provision of more dies, Without departing from the original method of manipulation thereof. l
A still` further object is to provide an improved latch or lock to secure the two handles each to the other While the cones are in process of baking.
These objects, together with other objects apparent to those skilled in the art may be attained by the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be here- .imiter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed.
Reference being had to thel drawing, Figure 1 is a top View of the entire machine showing it as when-` the cones are in process of baking, Fig. 2 is a part sectional side elevation of the saine as seen on the line X-X in Fig. 1, Fig.' 3 is a side elevation of the machine in open position, the pastry cones having been just removed, and the female die portion shown in section, Figfl:

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring again to the drawing, A indicates a Icovcrless and bottomless oven Where' in is provided a gas burner 2 suitably connected to the gasv supply by a 'pipe 3. The said oven is secured at its front and rear parts to substantial standards or uprights 4, which are provided with bottom-lips 5 through which screws 6 pass and secure them to the floor, table or bench, as the CaSe may be.
The tops of the standards 4. are adapted to support the longitudinal arms ,7 and 8 of the conical 'female dies B. The said dies are arranged in tivo transverse sections or series B1 and B2, and the dies in each series are in alinemont one with the other. Each series is centrally divided and consists of a central `integral member 9, comprising one equal half part of the tivo said series. The other half parts l() and 12 of said series are hinged at their lower end parts tothe lower end parts of the member 9 14, respectively.
The arm 7 is provided with a narrow end part l5 which is slightly hollow'ed on its under side to rest upon a fulcrum 16, and a longitudinal handle 17 is centrally secured to and extends from the end of the arm 8.

Pins 34 are provided rigid with the arms 7 and 5l, respectively, which pins are adapted to enter corresponding recesses in the arms 22 and 2&1, respectively, in order to govern and direct the accurate entrance of the male dies 19 into the'female dies B.
The carrier 20 is provided with an integral arm 22 which is pivotally connectedto the arm 7 at 23, and another arm 24 extends parallel with the arm 8 from the opposite or front-end of ,said carrier, and is pro vided with an elongated handle 25 similar to and parallel with the handle 17. In the modified form, shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing, I provide an integral counter weight 22l on the arm 22.
When the dough or batter is placed in the female dies B, and the male dies 19 are` placed in position for baking as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the handles 17v and 25 are locked together in order to retain the carrier 20 securely in position, and by the novel means to be described.
IIhe handles 17 and 25 are long enough to be somewhat resilient, and may be pressed together at their ends by exerting a suflicient amount of strength. A block 26 is loosely connected by means of suitable linksy 27 to the end of the handle 17, and the side 28 of said block farthermost from the links 27 is hollowed to conform substantially to the contour of the handle 25. Villen' the machine is open, the said block is hangingas shown in Fig. 3, but when it is required to lock the handles, the block is placed with its side 29 on the top of the handle 25, then by upward pressure effected upon the integral handle 30 the block is brought to the position shown in Fig. 2, securely locking said handles. By effecting a slight downwardA j ar to the handle 30, the block is again dislodged. To facilitate the easy adjust' ment oflsaid block, and to prevent the Sa'me, from sliding too far upon said handle., I`
employ a lug 301 integral with the handle l30. The said lug tends -to augment the leverage when applying the block 26 to the handle 25, and engages the end of said handle when the block is locke'd in position thereon, as shown in Fig. 2.
The gas jets 31 of the burner 2 are 'so positioned thereon as to deliver the flame between and atsthe sides of the dies as shown in Fig. 1, in order to distribute the heat .more e uallv to the )astr 'lhe machine q l Y as illustrated in the same figure, by means of downward pressure effected upon the handle 17. `Whein this pressure is brought to bear on said handle, the half part 12 of the series B2 of female dies is first opened, as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawing. The said part 12 is connected by a slide catch 35 to the central member 9. Thus it will be seen that when the part 12 is entirely opened, the catch 35 is drawn to its extremity, and the continuance of pressure on said handle will consequently open the series B1 of dies. vThis operation provides for the ready extraction of the cones from the female dies without breaking,r or defacin g the raised lettering or ornamental design thereon formed by the corresponding molds ,33 in said dies. W'henth'e cones are removed, the female dies are permitted to resume their previous position simply by means of their own weight.
It will be perceived that by the addition of several series of female dies B, and likewise corresponding male dies 19, the operation of the machine will be unaltered.
Having now fully described my invention,l what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In a. machine of the class described, a coverless oven and heater therefor, a central member comprising one half part of cach' of two separate series ,of female dies, side inembers comprising the other halves of said series andhingied at their lower end parts to the lower end parts of the central member', an integral arm on each said side member adapted to support the female die meinliers over the oven and heater, a carrier pivoted to one of said arms, a fulcrum adapted to support-the end of the same arm, a handle secured to the end of the other arm, male dies secured to the carrier adapted to tit the female dies with an intervening space between, a handle secured to the carrier, and means for locking the two said handles to gether at their ends, for the purpose set forth;
2. In a machine of the class described, an oven and heater therefor, a number of series of centrally divided female dies, the respective halves of each series being hingedly secured together at their lower end parts,'a
rear arm integral with and extending` from one outer half part, a fulcrum adapted to support the arm, a. forward arm integral with and extending from theother outer half part, said arms togetheradapted to support the series of female dies over the ovenand heater, a handle ixed to the forward arm adapted when downward pressure is applied to it to open the first series of female dies, means to open the remaining` series when the pressure is continued, va carrier member pivoted to the rear arm, male dies secured to the carrier member and adapted to enter the female dies with an intervening space between, a handle fixed to said carrier member extending parallel to the handle on the forward arm when the machine is closed, means for locking said` handles together, and means for directing the true entrance of the male dies into the female dies.
3.
