a citizen of the United States, residing at Beach, inthe county of Whatcom and State of `Washington, have invented a new and `useful Ignition-Plug, of which the following 1o` is a specification.

Also on this threaded end is screwed binding; nut 8b. l is the element, preferably made of refractory wire in the form of a helix. One end of said wire is connecte-d to rod head 3a and the other end is connected to the lower end of jacket 2; 5 is the electrode cage and consists of a tube having a closed lower end and neatly fitted for revolution in hollow stud l. When said nut 6 is tightly` screwed down the electrode is turned with difficulty in the cage, but by easing said nut the electrode may be revolved freely. As noted, one end of element 4 is connected to rod 3, which is therefore insulated, while the other end of said element is connected to jacket Q which connects it to the engine frame or ground. One terminal, not shown, of a suitable source of electricity, not shown, is connected under binding nut 3", while the other terminal of said source of electricity is connected to the engine frame as usual. The electric circuit of said source of electricity is supplied with a switch as usual. In starting the engine this switchis closed and hand wheel 5e is turned to cause score 5t to register with score le when holes 5, 5 register with holes l, l, seeFigs. 1, 2, 3 and (3, 'and element l is exposed to the gases in the engine cylinder as described. But when the.
services of the hot element 4 are no longer required in the proper operation of the engine hand wheel 5e is turned to cause score 5f to be at right angles with score 1e which causes cage 5 to turn through an angle of 90 in stud 1 and holes 5, 5 are turned out of registry with holes 1, la, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, and element 4 is shut olf from exposure to the said cylinder gases.
When it is desired to remove electrode 2 during the operation of the engine the battefry terminal undcrnut 3" is removed, hand Wheel 5e is turned to cause score 5f to be at right angles with score l", nut 6 is unsrewed, when said electrode can be removed a` pleasure. To replace said electrode the opposite order is followed. This mechanism is also suitable for use with a jumpspark element.

In combination, the cylinder of'an internal combustion engine; a hollow stud engaged in the walls of said cylinder with its lower end closed and protruding'into the interior of said cylinder and having two registering holes through its walls Withf in said cylinder, and also having a stuflingbox gland on its outer end without said cylinder; an electrode cage mounted for revolution in said hollow stud having two registering holes through its lower end which are adapted to move into and out of registry with said holesin said stud when said cage is revolved, and also having a ring boss adapted to bear onthe upper end'of said stud beneath the packing of said stuifing-box gland; an electrode mounted in said cage comprising' a central metallicvrod, an outer metallic jacket insulated from said rod and having a ring boss near its upper end; a refractory wire one end of which is connected to the lower end of said rod and the other end of which is connected to the lower end of vsaid jacket adapted to hang between the holes in said cage; and a bush nut in the upper end of said electrode cage bearing on the ring boss on said electrode.
