PORTABLE STOCK-FENCE.
1 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISRAEL E. GHAMBLIss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented a new and. useful Portable Stock-Fence, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a portable stock fence, and the main object of the invention is the production of a fence which may be readily moved from place to place as occasion may demand and so permitting the stock to graze on new pasturage.
A further object within the contemplation of the invention is the provision of a fence constructed of detachablepanels.
The invention also has within its objects the provision of means for securing w1re to the fence.
The provision of adjustable panels for closing the lower portion of the fence 1s another object within the contemplation of the invention.
The invention also contemplates the provision of means for fastening the panels together.
. within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation of a fence constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Flg. 1, parts removed;
Fig. 3 is a section on the hue 3'3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan new of the wheel supporting frame and pintle;
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view in plan of the corner construction.
Referring to the drawings by numerals of reference 2- In carrying out the invention detachable Specification of LettersPatent.

panels are provided and each panel is composed of end uprights 1 which are preferably formed of angle-iron and which are provided with short longitudinal slots for the reception of studs 3 which are affixed to bars 4 and threaded to receive wing .nuts 5 for the purpose of clamping the bars in adjusted'positions on the uprights 1.
The upper ends of the uprights 1 are connected by a longitudinal .bar 6, which is preferably an angle bar, and which is riveted or otherwise secured to the uprights. The lower ends of the uprights are connected by the vertically spaced, parallel, longitudinal bars 7, which bars are riveted or otherwise-suitably connected to the uprights.
Secured to the lower end of that upright 1 at the right hand end of each panel is an outwardly, or laterally extending frame or bracket 8 which is apertured to receive a pintle 9 upon which turns a yoke 10 forming a support for the wheel or roller 11. These wheels support the fence and aid in the transportation thereof when the fence is being moved from place to place.
The bars 4 are provided with notches 12 in which strands of wire 13 may be gripped. The wire herein shown connected to the bars 4 being barbed wire.
The uprights 1 and the longitudinal bars 6 and 7 have their opposed edges apertured to form an attachment for the woven wire 14.
Longitudinal bars 15 may be provided and arranged parallel with and spaced in wardly from the bars 7, and these bars and the bars 7 are provided with spaced, alining apertures 16 adapted to receive pins 17 which extend through such apertures and apertures 18 formed in the adjustable panels 19, which panels are slidable verticall between the bars 7 and 15 and may be lowered to prevent small stock from passing beneath the fence.
The panels of the fence are connected together by spanner links or pins 20, the angled ends of which enter apertures formed in the longitudinal bars of-the panel, and which link is held in place by an overlying clip 21. One end of the clip 21 is secured to the end of one panel by riveting or otherwise, while the other end is detachably secured to the adjacent panel by the collars or rings 22 which encircle and are slidable on the longitudinal bars 6 or 7 The panels of the fence may be secured together in any suitable manner at the cor- 11ers. As herein shown an angle brace engages the outer faces of the longitudinal bars of abutting panels, as indicated at 23, and this brace and an interior brace 24:, in the form of a split triangle, are secured to the bars 6 and 7 by means of bolts 25 and rings or collars 26 or in any other suitable manner.
The bars 4 are slidable through slots 4 formed in the horizontal flange of the bars 6 and are adjustable to regulate the height of the fence.
' Brace rods 27 are pivotally secured at intervals to the bars 6 for the purpose of anchoring the fence in any desired position.
When the stock restrained with the in-. closure have cropped the grass from the soil draft animals may be hitched to the fence and the same transported to another location.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patent, is A 1. A portable fence, including detachable panels, said panels having apertures, a link adapted to enter the apertures of adjoining the apertures, a clip adapted to overlie the link to retain the same in place, and means for securing the clip to the panels. V
3. A portable fence, including detachable panels, said panels having apertures, a link provided with bent ends adapted to enter the apertures, a clip pivotally secured at one end to a panel and swingable to overlie the link and retain the same in place, and means for securing the clip in place.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ISRAEL E. CHAMBLISS.
