The present invention relates to drilling apparatus and'more particularly to that type vin which the chuck and therefore the tool is rotated by means independent of the motor which delivers the drilling blow.
One of the objects of the p resent invention is to provide a relatively simple and practical structure that is also compact, and in whichthe various parts will eiectively carry ll out their functions.

Upon the carriage and engaged with said projections 10 and 17, are clamping washers 18 having conical sockets 19 that receive the projections 10 and 1T. A bolt opening formed between the carriage and rear head 14 receives a bolt 2O that serves to bind the parts in associated re; lation and thus clamp the rear' end of the drilling motor to the carriage.

`Mounted on the upper side of the drill actuating motor above described, is a drill rotating motor, the same consisting of a cyllower side ot' this collar is provided with outstanding liat sided tapered projections 30 disposed over the projections 11, as shown in Fig. f1, the sets of projections being clamped together by plates 31 having tapered sockets that receive the saine, these plates bridging the joint between the carriage 8 and collar and being held in assembled relation by the tie bolt `By having one. set, as for eX- ample, the rear projections 10 and 17 conical andthe front set with flat faces, it will be obvious -thatwhile the parts are securely clamped together, the flat faces will permit any relative di'erence in the relation f the 5 parts and obviate strains that might arise if both sets of securing projections were-con'iv cal and the sections thereofgwere slightly out of position.
The cylinder member 28 contains a rotary, motor, preferably ofwell-known type, and consisting of a pair of pistons 33 and34, having 'intermeshing teeth.v vO e ,of these pistons, as 33, is Iprovided with a suitable roller bearing-35, the other .carrying a shaft 36 that projects through the front wall 37 of the cylinder 28, said wallfbeing preferably removable.- 0n the-projecting end of this.`

The front head '37 of the motor cylinder 28 is provided with a forwardly projecting wall`46, and the rear end of the casing 39 -is enlarged, as shown at `47 and abuts against the front edge of said wall, thereby producing a gear case, in which the driving pinion 38 and the gear 45 are located. The pinion 38 is in mesh with a gear 48 located alongside the same, and this gear 48 -is integral with or fixed to a pinion 49 that in turn meshes with the lgear 45.- It will thus be seen that a reducing train of gearing is provided between the rotarymotor and the tool-receiving chuck for transmitting .motion from the former to the latter.
The head 37 of the rotary motor cylinder member 28 is secured to said cylinder member by bolts 50, shown in Fig. 1, andthe chuck casing 39 is clamped to the rotary motor and the latter in turn is clamped in position upon the front end of the cylinder' member 12 by side bolts 51 engaged at their rear ends in ears 52 formed upon the rear head 14, and in ears 53 formed upon the said chuck casing 39. Springs 54 are preferably located on these bolts to take care of the usual vilbration and jars incident to the operation of the apparatus.`
For the purpose of delivering and controlling the supply of motive fluid to the mechanisms, the' following instrumentalities are y preferably employed.. Formed upon the up,-4 v

A branch passageway 64 leads from the valve casing '56 between the inner end of the throttle valve 59 and the nipple 58 and `is in communication with one end of the other casing 57 In this valve casing is located a throttle valve 65 operalble independentl of the valve 59 by an ex osed actuating evice 66 that is located, oweve,

The valve 65 has Aa lateral port 67 therein, which is movable into and that leads to the rota motor 28. A suitable packing 69 is re erably interposed between the rear wal of the motor cylinder and the adjacent end of the enlargement 55. The exhaust from said rotary motor takes l place throu h a port 70 formed in the'fro'nt heads 37 of e rotary' motor cylinder, which thus admits such exhaust into the gear casing. When so delivered the lubricant will be carried by the motive fluid through the working parts ofthe apiaratus.

. Either motor can be actuated independently of the other, the parts are relativelyy simple, and all are readily accessible.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in t-he art, Without further description, and it will be under stood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construc-` tion may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a cylinder member and a hammer iston operating in the cylinder member, of) a collar surrounding and mounted on the cylinder member, a rotary drill receiving chuck at the front portion of the cylinder member, and a drill rotat-ing motor connected to the collar and geared t0 the chuck.
2. In apparatus of the character set forth, the combination with a cylinder member having a reduced headportion, and a hammer piston having its hammer end operating in said head portion,` of a collar surrounding said head portion, a rotatable drill receiving chuck in said head portion, and a drill rotating motor mounted on the collar and geared to the chuck.
3. In apparatus of the character set forth,- the combination with a drill actuating motor including a cylinder member, of a chuck rotating motor removably mounted thereon and -abutted against a portion thereof, a chuck including a rotatable tool receiving member and a casing therefor, the latter being abutted` against thechuck rotating motor and separable therefrom, and means for clamping together the drill actuating motor, the chuck rot-ating motor and the chuck casing.

In apparatus of the character set forth, the combination with a drill actuating motor including a cylinder member, of a rotatable chuck. a chuck rotating motor carried by the drill actuating motor cylinder member, motive'fiuid supply means including a common chamber on the cylinder member and separate passagevvays leading from the chamber to the tvvo motors respectively. transversely disposed valve casings located side by side at one side of the cylinder meinber and including respectively the passage- Ways. and rotary valves in the casings. respectively controlling the passages to permit either motor to be operated independently of the other. said valves having adjacent actuatingmeans at corresponding ends.
