4POETAELE HEATER.
Specification of Letters Paten-t.
Patented Feb. 4, 1919.
Application filed October 16, 1916. Serial No. 125.9457.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. Cook, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fruitville, in the county of Manatee and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a heater and particularly to one of the portable type adapted for the heating of branding irons,
The invention aims to provide a novel, improved and simplified construction of heater possessing the advantageous features of construction and utility, which will appear from the accompanying drawings, considered in connection with the following description and which heater generally comprises a housing of relatively movable parts, the burner proper within the housing, means to facilitate portage of the article, and means supported from said means and leading to the burner to feed fuel to the heater.
In said drawings:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved burner;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the improved heater taken on the lines 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the lines 3-3 of Fig. 1, and,
Fig. i is a cross sectional view on the line 4 4 of Eig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, a casing is provided forming a heating chamber and comprising sections 5 and 6 which sections are hinged together as at 7 for opening movement horizontally and which sections are adapted to be fastened in closed relation or against independent movement by any suitable form of fastening means at 8. Bottom walls of the sections 5 and 6 are provided with suitable vent openings as at 9. A suitable sta or rod 10 is provided, being fastened as by means of solder to the top wall of section 5 and being provided with a suitable handle as at 11.
A fuel supply tank 12 is provided from which the supply tube or pipe 13 leads interiorly of the casing 5-6 and which tube and tank are rigidly fastened to the sta 10 through tube 13, a valve 16 is provided which has an elongated stem 17 extending through and above the top wall of the tank 12. Any suitable means may be utilized for maintaining the valve in adjusted position, for instance, it may be screw-threaded on the stem as at 18 so as to coperate with screw-threads within a boss 19 on the tank.
lVithin the casing formed of sections 5 and 6, the end of tube 13 is enlarged into a burner 20 in the wall of which suitable orifices or ports 21 are provided. In the top walls of the sections 5 and 6, suitable openings 22 are preferably provided through which the igniting medium for the gas may be passed and also through which the branding irons to be heated from the burner at 20 may be inserted.
In use, the valve 16 is first regulated, with a supply of liquid fuel within the tank 12, by turning the rod 18. The screw-threads of this rod or stem will coperate with those within the boss 19 thus maintaining the valve in its adjusted position. A supply of fuel will now gravitate to the burner 20 and this may be ignited by passing a lighted match through one of the openings 22 and in Contact therewith or with the gas therefrom. The branding irons as stated may be inserted through the openings 22 and held relatively close to the burner 20 until the desired heat is attained. Since the fastening S permits opening of the sections 5 and 6, the burner 20 and the interior of the casing may be readily cleaned.
Since merely the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, t is to be understood that changes in the details of construction of the invention may be resorted to without departing from its spirit and scope.
I claim A portable heater, comprising a casing having a plurality of small openings in its In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature bottom ail relatively lare openrflgsh in its in presence of two Witnesses.
top, a sta connecte to t e top o t e oas- A ing, a burner Within the casing, a fuel tank WILLIAM A COOK' mounted on the upper end of the staff, and Witnesses:
a conduit connecting the tank with the said T. Z. B. EVERTON,
burner and attached to the stal'. F. E. PLATT.
