Description

PATENT OFFICE.
DUDLEY M. OLIVER, OF CHARLESTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SIDE-SADDLE TREES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,292, dated July 16, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in SideSaddle Tree, invented by DUDLEY M. OLIVER, of Charleston, in the county of Ooles and State of Illinois.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of side-saddles and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts of the saddle-tree hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of Fig. 2 taken on the line as .00, showing a front view. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view, and Fig. 3 is a rear view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the pad-bar, which is formed to receive a pad, the horn B being connected therewith, so as to leave a shoulder, O, in front of the horn, to which shoulder the front of the leather spring D is nailed. The spring D is a full. leather spring, extending forward and back to the point E- of the seat and upward as high as the horn B, as seen in the drawing. F represents the seat, which is attached to the side-bars G G, as seen in Fig. 3. H represents an opening between the bars. I is a rabbet on the seat to receive the straining-piece, which leaves the seat level when completed. The tree is made of wood and covered in the ordinary manner, and is stayed by strips of brass or other metal, J, at various points to render it strong and durable. I do not limit or confine myself to the precise form of the parts described, as variations may be made without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- Gut-1' 1. A side-saddle, having pad-barAand horn B, connected together as described to leave a shoulder, O, in front of the horn, and having the full spring D nailed to said shoulder and extending over beyond the horn, said parts being all arranged as and for the purpose described. I
2. The rabbet I in the seat, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
