To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER E. SHEIDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Old Fort, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Switch-Locks, of which thev following is a specification.
My invention generally relates to improvements in switches or switch locks of that class commonly used for controlling automobiles or gas engine ignitions, and it is more particularly directed to the production of an attachment of a very simple, and inexpensive nature, especially designed for being applied to switch lock controls for Ford automobiles.
As is well known, the switch locks on automobiles of the type stated are arranged for being operated with a peculiarly designed key for that particular type of switch lock mechanism, which form of key is adapted for operating the switch lock equipments on all new Ford cars.
To provide for arranging the switch mechanism of the kind stated so that a special or individual key may be used for operating the switch, it has been a common practice to combine a Yale or other combination lock mechanism with the said stated switch lock mechanism so that only an individual key can be used for operating tho switch lock.
To apply a Yale or other similar type of i lock to'a Ford car switch lock is more or less expensive and requires a careful fitting of the parts. A
The main purpose of my invention is to provide an attachment that can be made at a very low cost and in which the parts areso designed that they may be quickly and easily applied onto a switch box without the need of-screws or other like fastening means.
With further objects in View, that will hereinafter appear, my invention consists of an attachment for the purposes stated that embodies the peculiar features of construction and arrangement of parts to be first explained in detail, specifically pointed out in theappended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 2 is a detail section of parts of the switch lock with my attachment applied, the key being shown in position for turning the switch to close in the magneto or the battery circuits. 1
Fig. 3 is a perspective view'that illustrates a modified form of my attachment hereinafter particularly referred to, the switch box being also illustrated in this figure to show the manner in which the modilied form of my attachment may be applied onto the front plate of the switch box.
Fig. l is a face view of the attachment applied to the switch box and illustrates the cup-shaped or preferred form, the position of the key being shown in full lines and the extent of lateral throw of the key to close the magneto or battery circuits being indicated in dotted lines.
In the drawings, the switch comprises a casing 1 of insulated or other suitable material and in which is contained the. stationary contacts and a movable contact 3 mounted on a switch member 5, the latter in turn being mounted on a collar 6 that is rotatably journaled on a socket bearing 7 attached to the base portion 10 of the casing l.
2r lhe collar 6 has a pair of oppositely disposed recesses 8-8 and the front or recessed end of the said collar 6 projects through a central opening 9 in the front plate l1 of the switch lock housing for receiving the key tangs of the conventional type of key now used in connection with the form of switch lock mechanism described, the latter being of a well known construction need not be further referred to.
My improved attachment comprises a front plate 12 which, in the preferred forni shown in Figs. 1 and 2, forms an integral part of a cup-like body shaped for being pushed over the switch housing, the said cup-like body in practice being so formed that, when pushed onto the housing, it frictionally engages such housing so that it cannot be readily removed without the use of ioo ' vided with a collar 16 for holding it from f to provide for the use of shaped', as inV Figs. 1 and 2, a single plateY Y the cup-shaped body passing through the said key hole portion 14. When the cup-like body is slipped onto the switch housing, as is indicated on Fig. 1, and pushed in against the front plate of the housing, as indicated in dotted lines on the said Fig. 1, the key into and is rotatable within the socketed bearing? on which the collar 6 is rotatably mounted, as is clearly shown inFig. 2, by reference to which itv will be readily apparent that by using a key shaped as shown, the latter may be easily inserted into the lock by bringing the key socket 15 in line with the key slot in the Vfront plate of and, when thus positioned, the key tang 17 will ride along the outer edge of the socketed bearing 7 and project into one of the opposite grooves 8 inthe collar 6 that carries and rotates with theV switch member 5, itV being understood the key need be turned but a short distance in either direction to eiiect the closing of the magnet orbattery circuit, as is indicated on Fig. 4c, from which it will be observed that the key, when at the midway position, is on the od point.
