SHAVHV G ARTICLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1919.
Application filed May 4, 1918. Serial N 0. 232,556.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK SAYLES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and Articles, cation. This invention relates to improvements in shaving articles and one of the objects of the same 1s to provide an improved article of this character, embodying a shaving brush and mug adapted to be'detachably secured together so that the brush will be inclosed within and protected by the mug when not in use. The brush is provided with a chamber in its handle for containing a supply of powdered soap and the said chamber is provided with a cover adapted to be adjusted withrespect to the chamber, whereby the powdered soap may be dispensed.
A further object is to provide an 1mproved. cover for the mug, ad ustably mounted upon the brush handle and whlch cover-serves as a drip cup when the brush is in use, which will prevent an excess of lather or water taken up by the rush from flowing down upon the hand of the user, and will also serve the same purpose when the brush is inverted and stood upon a suport.
p To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing, illustrating this invention, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of an 1mproved device of this character constructed in accordance with the principles of th1s invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view as taken on line 2-2, Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section, showing the brush lnverted and the drip cup adjusted upon the handle.
Fig. 4; is a horizontal sectional view on line 44.-, Fig. 2.
In this invention the brush is provided with a hollow handle 10, which may be of any desired shape and configuration, and is provided with an open end closed by a suitable closure 11, removably secured in position in any suitable manner, such as by means'of screw threads. The wall of the handle is provided with an opening 13, with which an opening let, in theclosure 11, is adapted to be brought into register and through which registering openings the.
powdered soap 15, within the handle 10, may be sifted into the mug or cup 16, for use. When desired to fill the handle, the cover 11 may be readily removed.
The other end of the handle is preferably cylindrical, as at 17, and the extremity of such portion of the handle is adapted to be closed, preferably by the body 18, of the brush 19, and which body preferably extends into the handle and is secured in any desired or suitable manner. The body 18 of the brush is preferably in the form of a ferrule which is flanged overthe extremity of the handle, as at 20, and the periphery ofthe flanged portion is shaped to form a head or projection and which projection cooperates with a shoulder 22, on the handle, to hold the closure 23 of the mug 16 and the brush against separation.
The closure 23 may be provided with a cir cumferential flange 24, by means of which the closure may be secured in position on the mug, such as by being screwed thereto, or otherwise.
The closure 23 is provided with an open ing therethrough, and through which open ing the cylindrical portion 17 of the handle passes, so that the closure may be adjusted upon the handle between the shoulder 22, and the stop 21, to prevent separation of the parts.
The opening in the closure 23 isof a size only slightly larger than the exterior diameter of the cylindrical portion 17 of the handle, so that the closure and handle will be frictionally held in their adjusted positions with relation to each other.
It will therefore be manifest that, when not in use, the brush and closure may be relatively adjusted so that when the closure is secured to the mug, as in Fig. 2, the brush will be housed in the mug and protected thereby. This will also result in a sanitary arrangement.
When it is desired to use the outfit, the closure 23 and the brush therewith may be detached from the mug 16, and the closure then adjusted upon the handle to the desired position, so that the closure will form a drip cup, While the brush is in use, to prevent any excess of lather and water taken up by the be-made in the in the combination and arrangement of the any suitable size to brush from flowing down upon the fingers of the operator.
Furthermore, the closure 23 serves as, a drip cup when the brush is not in use,-and;is inverted and stood upon its end, as shown in Fig. 3.
"Obviously the closure 23 may be made of is to be applied. It is also manifest that many changes may details of construction an several parts, within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit .{of this invention.
=What I claim as newisz- 1. A shavingarticle embodying a shaving brush, a drip cup frictionally mountedupon the handle or the brush for adjustment longitudinally thereof, means 'for'holding-the said drip cup and brushagainst separation, in combination with a receptacle, said drip cup wheninvertedforming a closure for the receptacle-and adapted to be detachably secured tothe receptacle.
2. Ashaving' article embodyingaihollow brush handle constituting T a powder receptacle having adischarge outlet adjacent one end, a closur'e'for the outlet, abrush proper detachably connected with theother" end of the handle, a receptacle for lather, a closure Copies of this patentaney beobtainedior fit the mugto which it. vagainstseparation, the
handle, a portion ofthe cent the brush being reduced-to-=form a .1 t shoulder spaced from thebru-sh', said reduced longitudinally portion beyond the shoulder being of amniform diameter throughout its length, a -closure, forming a drip cup -and ifreely slidable upon: the said: portioniof the handle, shoulder adjacent the brush and between which shoulders-- the said clos ur ev is adapted to-be moved, whereby the..shoulde rs brush, handle and f frictionally engaging sald the brush, and upon which receptacle {the said closure is adapted to be fitted.
In testimony whereof-I, have signed. my
