To all whom it may concern Be it known that I,-JoHN J. , The present invention relates to molding machines and more particularly to machines of-'this" type employed for molding soles prior to their incorporation in aboot or shoe.
--In. molding soles which have been tempered or softened by immersion in water or other suitable Iiq'uidit is desirable to pro vide means for collecting'and disposingof the liquid which oozes from the sole under pressure to prevent this liquid from coming into contactwith and corrodingthe moving parts of the machine. r
The obi ect of the present invention, there fore, is to provide means:for' inclo'sing the lower mold in a manner to'insure' the col lection of all'of the liquid which is squeezed from the sole, which at the same time aflords an adequate support for the mold duringthe sole pressing operation.
With this object in view a feature of the invention contemplates the provision of" a of a slide supporting'the'mold,inclosing single integral casting having walls which inclose the mold, a boss co-extensive in area with the mold and adapted to accord a firm supportfor-the latter, and gutters surrounding the boss and sloping toward a discharge opening which passes through thebase' of the casting. f i
A further feature of the invention consistsin the combination with a. sole mold,
walls surrounding 'the mold, a discharge opening adapted to lead liquid away from and belowthe'slide, and gutters surrounding the mold within the walls'and-sloping toward and communicating with the discharge opening.
In the simplest and most efficient form of the invention which has yet been devised, the improved receptacleor pan is adapted for attachment to-existing machines, and to 1 v Specification of Letters Patent.

this end is formed as a single integral casting having a boss extending above and below the base of the pan and adapted to rest upon the mold slide andsupportthe mold directly from the'slide. This'pan is secured to the slide in any suitable manner and is adapted to receive the usual ,type of mold having a.

The illustrated embodiment of the inven: tion is shown in connection with a machine of the type disclosed in the co-pending application ofhHeys, Serial No. 26,551, filed May 7, 1915. This machine comprises a stationary pressing fornrl and a cooperating sole supporting form 2, which are adapted, as shown clearlyin Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings, to impart the desired shape to a sole'priorto its incorporation in a boot or shoe. The lower mold 2 is carried upon a slide 4 whi h is supported in a head 5 moving virtually between guide rods 6. Accord ing .to the usual operation of machines of this type the vertical movement ofthe head 5: causes a simultaneous horizontal movement of the slide 4 relative to the head to carry the lower mold 2 into alinement with the upper mold 1, the lower mold being positioned at the front of the machine out OF PATERSON', NEW JERSEY, A COR- of alinement withrthe uppermold-for the convenient application and removal of the shoe soles.
During. the solemolding operation the liquid which is. squeezed out of .the sole runs down upon the machine if no provision is made for collecting it. This tends to corrode the moving parts of the machine, more particularly the ways in which the slide moves; and is,- ini consequence, highly ob jectionable. A sole molding machine, comprising a mold, a slide supporting the mold and a pan' in which the mold is received, comprising walls incloslng the mold, a base portion sup porting the mold, positioning devices on the base portion, a discharge opening and gutters surrounding the base portion within the walls. and sloping toward and communicating with the discharge opening.

A drip panfor m'oldingmachines, comprising a single integral casting having walls adapted to inclose a mold, and a base portion provided with a boss adapted to support a mold and with a mold positioning device, the base portion having gutters surrounding the boss and sloping toward a discharge opening formed in the base.
