Be it known that I, Monnrs A. HEIMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful-Improvement in Necktie- Display Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

My invention relates generally to a merchandise display device and more particularly to a device in the form of a clamp or holder for engaging a plurality of neckties or the like and holding the same in a neat convenient manner, thereby enabling the ties to be maintained in neat and attractive piles in a showcase or upon a display rack and also enabling the ties to be readily handled by salesmen and customers.

The principal objects of my invention are, to provide a tie holding and displaying device which can be easily and cheaply manufactured, and said device being capable of use in connection with ties where the same are laid in piles on a counter or the like or suspended from a rod or like display fixture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a necktie display rack and showing my improved holder in position upon the ties suspended from said rack.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating my improved clamp or holder in position upon a series of ties.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp or holder applied to a series of ties.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the center of the clamp or holder.

Fig. 5 is an elevational view showing a modified form of one of the plates forming a part of the clamp or holder provided with a hook whereby the clamp or holder may be suspended from a rod or the like.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 and 11 de signate fiat plates, preferably of metal approximately two or three inches in length and provided near their ends with apertures 12 and 13 respectively. A frame upon which these plates 10 and 11 aremounted is formed of a single piece of wire, the same comprising a centrally arranged leg or section 14 which normally lies immediately adjacent to the outer face of plate 10. The end portions of the sections of wire are bent so as to form parallel legs 15 which occupy positions substantially at right angles to the central portion 14, said legs passing through the apertures 12 and 13 in plates 10 and 11.

The end portions of the legs 15 outside plate 11 are bent inwardly toward each other to form relatively short fingers 16, the same being slightly inclined so that their inner ends only hear directly against the outer face of plate 11 or upon the outer one of a series of ties which are engaged by the holder.

Positioned on the legs 15 of the wire frame and interposed between plates 10 and 11 are compression springs 17 which tend. to normally force said plates apart.

hen my improved holder or clamp is applied to ties which are suspended from a fixture such as is shown in Fig. 1, a number of ties are arranged in superimposed relationship, and said ties are folded over the supporting rail A of the fixture. One of the holders is now positioned on the series of ties, which operation is accomplished by pressing the plate 11 toward the plate 10 and manipulating the device so that the folded portions of the ties are positioned between the outer face of said plate 11 and the inclined gripping fingers 16. After this has been accomplished pressure on the plate is removed and the springs 17 will now act to grip the ties between said plate 11 and finger-s16. (See Fig. 2.) When s0 positioned, the inner ends of the inclined fingers firmly engage the outer one of the series of ties and elfectually holds the same against lOlIlOvill until the plate 11 is pressed inwardly to relieve the entire series of ties from the pressure of the springs 17 Furthermore, this gripping action of the fingers 16 against the outer tie prevents the entire series of ties from becoming disarranged when being handled by the salesman or customer, and as a result, the ties are maintained in a neat and convenient manner upon the support or display fixture.

In the event that ties are arranged for display on a counter or shelving, the ends of the folded ties can be inserted between plate 10 and the central portion 14' of the wire frame, as illustrated in Fig. 3, such arrangement holding the ties in neat piles.

A holder or display device of my improved construction is comparatively simple, can be readily applied to neckwear or the like or manipulated so as to permit the re lease of one of the engaged articles, and said device holds the ties or the like in a neat and convenient manner and can be readily combined with practically all forms of display fixtures.

It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved device may be made and substituted for those herein shown and. described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a device of the class described, a pair of plates perforated near their ends, a U- shaped frame, the legs of which extend Copies of this patent may be obtained for through the perforations in the plates so that both plates are free to move toward and away from each other upon said legs, the ends of said legs being extended inwardly toward each other and inclined so as to form gripping fingers which cooperate with the adjacent one of the plates to grip interposed objects, the inner ends of said fingers being spaced a substantial distance apart to permit the passage of objects between said fingers, and springs positioned upon the legs of the frame between said plates.

2. In a device of the class described, a plate provided near its ends with perforations, a U-shaped frame, the legs of which extend through the perforations inl said plate so that the latter is free to move in both directions upon said legs, the ends of said legs being extended toward each other and inclined so as to form gripping fingers which cooperate with said plate to grip interposed objects, the inner ends of said fingers being spaced a substantial distance apart to permit the passage of objects between said fingers, and yielding pressure means for normally forcing the plate toward said gripping fingers.
