DOMINO-SHUFFLEB.
Specification of Letters .Patent. Patented Jan. 21,1919.
Application filed March 2, 1918. Serial No. 220,042.
conccrm,
Be it 'known that I, omn. EIOHBLATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Domino-Shufllers, of which the following is a specification. I
"In playing the game of dominoes, the as is well known, are moved about or otherwise shuffled before the same are divided among the players. The dominoes are ordinarily *huflied by arranging the palm and fingers of both hands of one of theplayersthereover and imparting a gymtory..movement thereto. This method has that skilful or dishonest players can so arrange the pieces that the most desirable thereof may be dealt to himself and also some of the pieces are frequently pushed from the surface on which they are shuflled or turned face upward in the act of shuffling.
The present invention relates to a means formechanically shuffling dominoes or like playing pieces, and has for its object to produce a device of this character wherein the playing pieces will be thoroughly mixed and shuifled without being controlled by the shufller.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 illustrating the arrangement of the dominoes in the shufiiing device.
As disclosed by the drawings the dominoes 1 are arranged upon a flat surface, and are also arranged as near as possible in a circle with their faces downward.
The improvement is broadly indicated by the numeral 2, and contemplates the employment of a flat disk-shaped member 3 having a continuous depending flange 1. This member may be of any desired size or shape and may be constructed of any desired material. The member 3, upon the center thereof, and upon its outer face is centrally provided with a handle 5, and is further provided with any desired number of spaced and staggered outstanding bosses 6. Each of the bosses 6 is provided with a central bore or recess 7 that communicates with a smaller recess or opening in the body of the sliuiiler, the said opening being indicated by the numeral 8. Through this opening 8 is designed to pass the lowerend of pin member 9, the same having a shoulder 10 received in the bore of the boss and. designed to be forced into contact with the outer face of the shuflier, on the inner 'wall' of the bore through the medium of a spring 11"surroundin the said pin. The outer end of the pin is'arranged in a central opening in a bushing 12 secured in the bore of the boss, adjacent to the outer end of the boss.
, Theinner end of each of the pins is "mended, as clearly illusti'atedby thedraw- "'ings, and
the dominoes are shuffled by, as previously stated, arranging the same upon a board or other flat surface and positioning the shuflier thereover so that the flange thereof incloses all of the dominoes. It will be apparent that certain of the dominoes will be contacted by the pins which latter are forced outwardly against the tension of their springs, as clearly shown in the left hand boss in Fig. 3.. The springs are comparatively weak but are sufficiently strong to cause the pins to exert a pressure against the dominoes with which they contact. The operator, grasping the handle, causes the shufiler to describe small circles, and the dominoes engaged by the pins contacting with other dominoes will be forced out of such engagement, the pins then contacting with the sides of the other dominoes turn the same in different directions so that a thorough mixing or shufiling of the dominoes is thus insured. \Vhen the device is removed from over the dominoes, the dominoes are properly divided by the players.
Preferably the flange has its inner face provided with a coverlng of compressible material, and it is believed, from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that the operation and construction of the present invention will be readily understood without further detailed description.
What I claim is:
1. A shuflier for dominoes comprising a flanged member having spaced pins inward of the flange thereof.
2. A shufllcr for dominoes comprising a flanged member having spaced yieldable pins arran ed inward of the flange thereof.
3. shufller for dominoes comprising a flanged member having spaced longitudinally movable pins inward of the flange thereof.
4. A shuflier for dominoes comprising a flanged member having spaced longitudinally movable spring influenced pins inward of the flange thereo 5. A shuflier for dominoes or the like comprising a member having a continuous flange and spaced yieldable contact members upon the member inward of the flange.
6. A shuflier for dominoes or the like comprising a member having its outer face centrally provided with a handle and its outer edge formed with a continuous outturned flange, and spring pressed contact members inward of the flange.
7. In a shuflier for dominoes or the like, a flat disk having a peripheral flange, a handle centrally on the outer face of the disk, and concentrically arranged spring pressed pins arranged inward ot the flange of the shufiler.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the menses 8. In a shuflier for dominoes or the like, a peripherally flanged disk having a central handle upon its outer face, said disk being provided with outwardly extending bosses having bores which communicate with reduced openings in the disk, pins having inner rounded ends arranged in the bosses and extending through the openings in the disk inward of the flange of the said disk, said pins having shoulders, springs on the pins contacting with the shoulders-for normally forcing the same against the inner walls of the bosses, and bushings surrounding the pins arranged in the bores of the bosses and contacting with the outer ends of the springs.
9. A shuflier for dominoes, comprising a flanged member, a casing of compressible material on the inner face of the flan e, and spaced yieldable pins on said mem er inward of the flange thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
