To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Trmononn Mxsxow, a citizen of the United States of Amerlca,
residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bombs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bombs especially adapted to be dropped from aeroplanes for exploding upon hitting some object such as a building, the arrangement being such that the device is not liable to be accidentally exploded when being carried by the air craft.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a bomb adapted for maintaining an upright position while dropplng vertically from an air craft, a suitable exp osive being arranged in the bomb adapted for automatic firin when the device hits the earth or some 0 ject positioned thereon.
A still further object of the device is the provision of a bomb that is light in weight and easy to manufacture and in which an exploding magazine is readily assembled with the discharging mechanism, the latter being normally held 'inoperatively arranged until the device strikes an object in its descent through the air.

Referrlng more in detail to the drawing, the-device broadly consists of a hollow comcal casing havin a spherical explosive magazine 11 mounte in the base end thereof by means of a holder 12 and having a firing pm 13 adapted for exploding the contents 14 of the magazine.
The a ex portion 15 of the casing 10 is weighte for maintainin said end outwardly beneaththe magazlne 10 during the dropping of the device. The annular base portion 16 of the casing 10, is arranged with a plurality of resilient arcuate fingers 17 normally projecting slightly inwardly of the base 16 and adapted for overlying the spherical magazine 11 for retaining the magazine within the holder 12.
The holder 12 is substantially frustoconical in form, being hollow and fitting within the open base end of the casing 10 and having an annularbase portion 18 fitting within the base 16 of the casin 10. A funnel-shaped bottom 19 is provide for the holder 12 projecting inwardly of said holder and terminating in a .sleeve 20 at the contracted end of the funnel, centrally of the holder. The firing pin 13 is slidably arranged axially of the casing 10 and holder 12 through the sleeve 20, a central circular opening 21 in the circular end 22 of the holder 12 and through the bore 23 of the weighted apex 15 of the casing 10.
A cruciform collar 24 is carried by the pin 13 having thearms 25 thereof formed of slightly resilient metal and positioned inclined toward the pin 13 away from the point 26 of the pin, which point is normally arranged outwardly of the holder bottom 19 and adjacent a precussion cap 27 carried by and projecting through the side of the magazine 11. The pin 13 is normally maintained in the position just described within the bomb, by straps 28 carried by the holder end 32 adjacent the opening 21 thereof and through which straps, the arms 25 of the collar 24 are arranged with the said collar positioned within said opening 21.
From this detailed description of the invention it will be understood that the pointed end 26 of the firing pin 13 is normally spaced from the exploding cap 27 and with the opposite end 29 of the pin projecting outwardly of the casing apex 15. When the bomb is dropped through the air from an aeroplane, the wei hted end 15 strikes an object, the pin en 29 will first strike the object, thereby forcing the pin forment of the pin 13 when the projecting end 29 thereof is violently contacted as in striking an object when dropped from an aeroplane. A serviceable bombfor such purposes is arranged having its firing pin 13 normally maintained in such a position as to present little liability of any accident caused by the accidental permature discharge of the bomb.
What I claim as new is 1. A bomb comprising a conical casing having a weighted apex portion provided with an axial bore, a holder within the casing, an explosive magazine arranged within said holder and casing, the said holder having an axially positioned sleeve in one end thereof and an opening in its other end, a discharge cap carried by the magazine in alinement with the said sleeve and bore, and a firing pin through the said sleeve opening and bore arranged with a pointed inner end normally positioned spaced from the .said cap, the said pin having one end projecting outwardly of the casing and being adapted for longitudinal movement therein.
2. A device of the class described comprising a hollow conical casing having an annular base and a weighted apex with an axial bore through the said apex, a frustoconical holder having an inwardly extending funnel-shaped bottom terminating in an axial sleeve and further having a circular opposite end provided with an opening therein, the said holder closely fitting within the open base end portion of the casing, a spherical magazine arranged within the holder, resilient arcuate arms carried by the holder, overlying the magazine, a cap carried by the magazine inwardly of said sleeve, a firing pin slidably arranged through the said sleeve and opening and bore having a pointed end normally arranged spaced from the said cap, a collar carried by said pin having resilient arms arranged within the said opening and normal positioning straps carried by the said holder and freely overlying the said arms.
