AEROPLANE.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, KAEMON KURosE, a citizen of Japan, residing at Seattle, in the county of King, State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aeroplanes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a hydro-aeroplane.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a machine which is so constructed that it may rise from the ground after an exceedingly short glide.
A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that it may be easily and readily controlled by the operator.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of floats which are utilized as gasolene containers.
WVith these and other Objects in view, such as will appear asmy description progresses, my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

The embodiment of the invention shown in the drawings includes a pair of wings or planes which include frames 2 having covering material 1 thereon. These frames 2 are provided with sleeves 53 which are slidably mounted on circular frames 5, which frames are mounted parallel to each other and are braced by suitable braces 14 and 15, the latter extending horizontally and the former vertically. These planes are braced by suitable wires 3 and 13 which extend from the sides of the frames 2, at 13, and pass slidably through eyes 6 which are carried by the circular frames 5. It will thus be seen that the angles of the planes with relation to the Specification of Letters Patent.

horizontal is capable of the small adjustment necessary and that irrespective of the positions of the planes they will be braced by the wires 3 as the latter will slide through the eyes 6 when the planes are adjusted.
Extending rearwardly from the upper and lower ends of the frames 5 are arcuate bars 7 which are attached to the frames 5, at 7 and carry a supporting member 17, which member includes a horizontal bar 29. A plate 25 is secured to this horizontal bar 29 and a second plate 24 is mounted on the first plate, rotatably, by means of a bolt 26 which extends concentrically through the plates. The plate 24 carries a block 22, which block 'is secured to the plate 24 by rivets 27 and to which block an arm 28 is pivoted, which arm is at its other end connected to a tail 9. The tail may therefore have universal movement on its supporting member.
In order that the tail ma be raised or lowered, I have secured wire controlling members 46 to the tail, at 10, which controlling members extend through eyes 10 on the frame of the machine and are connected to a controlling lever 43 which is mounted adjacent the seat of the operator as will later appear. In order that the lateral movement of the tail may be effected, I have connected wire controlling members 47 to the tail, at 47",. which controlling members extend through suitable guide eyes 10 on the frame and are connected to the shaft of a steering wheel 42. This wheel42 is mounted on a frame 31, which frame is swun pivotally between the members 16 on the shaft 16 and which frame carries the operators seat 17 It is by this frame that the lever 43 is carried.
Extending between the sleeves 53 is a brace 53 through which a propeller shaft 11 extends, on the end of which shaft a suitable propeller 4 is secured. This propeller shaft extends rearwardly and is provided with a gear 35 which meshes with a beveled gear 34 which is mounted on a stub shaft 32 carried by the frame 31. The periphery of this gear 34 is provided with worm gear 33 with which a worm 33 intermeshes, which worm is connected directly to the shaft of the motor 41. This motor is carried by the frame 31. A sleeve 12 encircles the shaft 11 and connected to this sleeve, at 48, is a link 45 which is connected at its other end to a lever 49. This lever 49 is pivoted, at 52, to a quadrant rack 50, on which rack tions.
is mounted a frame 31 and with which a spring pressed pawl 51 cooperates to maintain the lever 49 in any of its adjusted posi- It will thus be seen that when the planes are adjusted the propellershaft and propeller will be adjusted at the same time but the drive gear 34 and the frame 31 which carries the operators seat, the motor and controlling levers will remain in their initial or horizontal positions owing to the pivotal connection of the frame 31 with the members 16.
In order that the machine may be sup ported on the water I hate provided the same with a pair of floats 19 which are hollow and are adapted to contain the gasolene which may be fed to the engine in any suitable manner. Shoes 20 are suspended from these floats 19 by means of springs 21 so that the shock of landing will be absorbed.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided an aeroplane in which the planes may be shifted and in which the position of the propeller will be changed simultaneously with the changing of the planes. Furthermore, I have pro vided a tail which is universally mounted at the rear of the machine and which in conjunction with the planes will aid the machine in rising. Furthermore,I have provided simple mechanisms for adjusting the planes and tail, which means may be controlled by the operator.
While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention, it has merely been for the sake of convenience and I do not wish to be limited to that particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.

In an aeroplane the combination With a frame comprising a pair of spaced continuous circular members connected by means of transversely extending braces, a plurality of planes, means carried by the planes and engaging the circular frames to provide for adjustment of the planes circumferentially of the circular frames, rigid braces connecting the opposite sides of the circular frames, a supplemental frame carried by said rigid braces near the axis of the circular members, a propeller, a shaft for said propeller extending radially of the circular frames, means for connecting the circular frames and adapted to support the propeller shaft, means carried by the supplemental frame for driving the propeller shaft, means carried by the supplemental frame for adjusting the propeller shaft, and means carried by the supplemental frame for adjusting the planes. o In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in. the presence of two witnesses.
