PNEUMATIC APPARATUS FOR TAKING OFF SINGLE SHEETS FROM PILES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 14, 1919.
Application filed September 5, 1918. Serial No. 252,808.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SHIMON FELDMAN, a citizen of Russia, and residing at Petrograd, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Apparatus for Taking Off Single Sheets from Piles. of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a pump by the aid of which a vacuum is produced for sucking off the single sheets to be separated.
The accompanying drawing shows one mode of carrying out the invention, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the pump.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the apparatus; and
Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 1 when a sheet is being taken from the pile.
The apparatus consists of a pneumatic pump 1, the bottom end 2 of which is provided with a pipe 3 leading to the sucking device 4 arranged beneath the pile of sheets 5 and mounted on the hinge 6. The rod 7 of the piston 8 is connected with the crank 9 by means of the connecting rod 10, forming the chief part of the invention. When the piston .8 moves to the left a moment arises when the rarefaction in the chamber 11 arrives at the maximum value permitted by the connecting rod. In order that the sucking device 4 work successfully, it is necessary that this state of the maximum rarefaction lasts as long as possible, and for this purpose the connecting rod 10 is made extensible (Figs. 1 and 3). At the moment when the rarefaction in the chamber 11 arrives at its maximum, the connecting rod 10 on the further rotation of the crank 9 on the axle 12 is extended, thus stretching the springs 13. The piston 8 remains in the position as shown in Fig. 8 during the period of time until the piston attains the position when the shoulder 14. of the solid portion of the rod engages the end of the tubular portion of said rod and then the piston begins to move back. At the back movements of the piston the rarefaction in the chamber 11 is diminished to permit the separation of the sheet from the sucking device 4.
The described apparatus enables each sheet to be kept separated from the pile during the desired period of time, when this sheet may be subjected to all operations, pulling, etc.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an apparatus for separating single sheets from a pile, a cylinder, a suction device connected to one end of the cylinder and communicating with the interior of the same, a piston movably mounted in the cylinder, a drive shaft, an extensible connecting rod having one of its ends connected to the piston, means for connecting the other end of the rod to the shaft, and a resilient member mounted on the connecting rod for normally holding the same in unextended position.
2. In an apparatus for separating single sheets from a pile, a cylinder, a suction device connected to the cylinder and communicating with the interior of the same, a piston mounted in the cylinder, a drive shaft, a crank mounted on the shaft, an extensible connecting rod having one of its ends connected to the piston and its other end connected to the crank, and springs for normally holding said rod in unextended position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v
SHIMON FELDMAN.
