To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES P. Snore, a citizen of the United. States, residing at l-licksville, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices, of which thefollowingis a full, clear, and exact specification.

This invention relates to amusement devices, and particularly to an automatic fortune telling device, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this character which odors variable combinations of readin s or compositions designative of good or evil fortune and the respective deslgnations may be readily read and fortunes told by one operating the device.

Theprincipal object of the invention is to produce variable cmnbinations of read ings or compositions based upon different phases or designations of life, such as life, business, love, marriage, social, ambition, brunette and blond, and the dividing of such readings into variable sub-combinations of readings or compositions.

ln carrying out the invention, there is provided What is termed a reading disk and a superposed transparent disk termed an indicator disk, either one of which is rotative. relative to the other, or both may be rotated in opposite directions. The reading disk has a plurality of curved radial iines to divide said disk into a plurality of sections or spaces. Each of the division lines has a designation of the principal phases of life, such as life, business, love, marriage, social, ambition, brunette and blond, and a plurality of readings or compositions are arranged in radial succession in the spaces between the curvedlines. The

indicator disk is also provided with curved lines of the same number as the lines on the reading disk but oppositely curved and having designated. thereon the phases of life in the successive order indicated on the read ing disk, whereby each line of the indicator disk will intersect lines of the reading disk,

and vice versa, and whereby innumerable.

and variable combinations and subcombinations of readings or compositions may be produced and readily read by the operator of the device.

The embodiment of my invention shown in the drawing comprises a disk 1, termed a and a transparent disk 5, preferably of celluloid and termed an indicator disk, superposed to the disk 4. As shown in Fig. 2, the disk 4 is mounted on a bushing 4 having an annular flange 9 to support the disk 4 upon a bearing 7. An

extended sleeve portion 6 of the bushing is ers 11 and 12 are secured to the opposite sides of the disk 5, the washer 11 serving as a bearing support for the disk and to space the same from the disk l. The disk 5 is yieldingly maintained contiguous to the disk 4-. by a spring 13 confined between the disk washer 12 and a knob 14 fixed to the upper end of the shaft 10.

4 and 5 are adapted to be rotated in opposite directions and for this purpose there is provided a pinion 15 fixed to the shaft 10 within the opening in the base, said pinion meshing with an idler pinion 16 meshing with a second idler pinion 17, rotatable with a gear 17', which latter gearmeshes with a pinion 18 fixed to the sleeve 6. it will be obvious that by rotating the knob 14 fastened to the shaft 10 that the disk 5 will be rotated in the same direction. as the knob, while the disk 4 through the train of gearing 15, 16, 17, 17 and 18 will be rotated in a reverse direction.

The disk t adjacent its periphery is divided into a plurality of equal spaces, shown as eight in number, by radiallines 19 and in theflspaces thus provided there is printed the words life, business, love, marriage, socolorsproducing a blending of colors and a cial, ambition, brunette and blond, designative or symbolic of the eight principal phases of life for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The reading disk 4 isprovided with curved lines 28'to divide the reading disk within the peripheral spaces into an equal number of radially extending spaces. The lines start at a point coincident with the radial-divisional lines 19 with the opposite ends of'the'lines merging into a circle whose axis is in line with the axis of the disk. These lines also havethe successive designations of "the phases o"f=life,as'life, business,

love, marriage, social, ambition, brunette and blond, similarly to the spaces adjacent the periphery of the disk. Each of the spaces between the lines 28is provided with a series of readings or compositions, preferably equal'in number to said curved spaces on the disk and reading successively and radially 'outwardfrom the center of the disk, such as, "Hate;"Sorrows, tears; Rival will outwit you; Outwit a dangerous rival; Will gratify your souls'desires;

A'letter'or parcel willbring great rejoicing; andWill lead'to deeds of honor and fame,"as indicated in the spaces between the linesfdesignative'of the life phases marriage and love, and which readings or compositions are based on the life phase. The spaces following'the other lines likewise have appropriatereadings or compositions based on the respective designations of the life phases.

The upper .or indicator disk also has curved or radial-lines 30, in number equal to the lines 28 on the reading disk and of the same .curvature but curved in'opposite directions, and havingthe-same successive designations, life, business, love, marriage,

social tambition,brunette and blond representative of the eight principal phases of life. It will be obviousthat as the indicator disk is transparent the lines and designations on the reading disk .can be observed and read through the indicator disk.

The curvature of the lines 30 on the indicator vdisk as wellas the curvature of the lines 28 on the reading diskis such that each of the'lines of each disk will cross or intersect lines ofLthe other disk, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, whereby the space following each line on the reading disk is divided into blocks or sections, in which blocks the readings or compositions are located as indicated ln'the. space on" the reading disk following the line representative of the life phase business.

It will be obvious that as the disks are rotated in 'opposite directions and lfinally cease to revolve, innumerable and varlable readings or compos'ltlons are producedwhich may be readily read by the operator. "The. successive lines on either one or "both of the disks may be i L different pleasing effect when the disks are rotated. For convenience of illustration, the lines on thetransparent disk have been shown in full lines, while the lines on the reading disk have been indicated in broken lines.

An example of the operation of the device is I substantially as follows The

1 and 5 are revolved in opposite directions by rotating the knob 14, and allowed to come to a stop. Should the disks come to a stop with the terminal of the lines on the disk 5 comingto a point between either of the radial lines 19 on the disk 1 the disk 5 is moved in a direction towardthe line "19'towhich the terminal of the lines 30 on the disk 5 are the nearest so that said lines 30 willregister with the lines 19, and, assuming the positions of the said disks when'they have come to rest are as'indicated in Fig. 1, it will be observed that at the point marked 40, the full line on the trans parent disk 5, and which'line denotes life, intersects the dotted'line on the reading disk 4:, and which dotted line, in this instance also denotes the life phase life. It will also be observed that'the full lineon the transparent disk denoting the life phase life, intersects the dotted line business on the reading disk at the point marked 41. Below the point 40 and also below the point 41 will be found, respectively, the following compositions on the reading disk: A life of sacrifices and benevolent deeds; Opportunitieswill ever come to your door, and which readings are supposed to be in reply to the questions propounded bythe person operating the device, for instance: What will my life consist of in'the future? and VVilll'I be successful in business? By way of further illustration, it will benotedthat in this position of the disks, the full lino Marriage on the transparent disk intersects the dotted line Marriage on the reading disk at the point marked 42, and underneath this intersection is found the composition: Will lead to deeds of honor and fame, and which reading is supposed tobe in answer to the question of the operator,

As a further illus tration, the full line 30 indicated by marriage crossing the dotted line 28 indicated by marriage, would suggest a question re- 'lating to marriage, and the answer thereto would be as indicated in the s ace below the point of intersection 42 of said lines, to wit: Will lead to deeds of honor and fame. As there are several inscriptions or compositions, radially arranged in the spaces between the respective lines, some of which a re designative of good fortune while others are designative of evil fortune, and either one of which is subject to a chance crossing or intersection of one of the lines on the indicator disk. it will be obvious that variable readings may be produced.

In Fig. 3 I have shown a modification, in which the reading disk 4 is fixed to a handle 36, as by a screw 37, the indicator disk 5 being carried by a tubular bushing or bear ing 38, rotatably mounted on a stud 39, secured in the screw 37, whereby the indicator disk may be rotated relative to the reading disk. The disks are provided with the curved or radial lines and the designations of the phases of life as well as the readings or compositions based on such phases of life, the same as the disks in Fig, 2, the readings of which compositions are the same as hereinbefore described in connection with the construction shown in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention I claim:

1. A fortune telling device comprising superposed disks, each disk having a plurality of lines extending radially from about the axis of the disks and so arranged that each line of one disk will intersect lines on the other disk.

2. A fortune telling device comprising superposed disks, each disk having a plurality of curved lines with the lines of one disk curved radial in a direction opposite to the lines on the other disk, and each line 3n Ieach disk intersecting lines of the other is c. i

A. fortune telling device comprising superposed disks, one of which is rotatable relative to the other; a plurality of curved lines on each disk extending from about the axis of the disks to the periphery with the curvature of the lines on one disk opposite to the curvature of the lines on the other disk and having successive designations of different phases of life, and the lines of one disk intersecting lines of the. other disk for the purpose specified.

A fortune telling device comprising superposed disks rotatable relative. to each other; a plurality of radial curved lines on one of said disks, the successive lines having designations of difierent phases of life; a. plurality of radial curved lines on the other disk ofthe same curvature as the lines of the first disk but extending in anopposite direction,-said lines also having the successive designations of diiferent phases of life the same as on the first disk, and each line of the respective disks intersecting lines of the other disk.

5. A fortune telling device comprising a disk having a plurality of radial curved lines, the successive lines having designations of different phases of life; a rotatable transparent disk superposed on the first disk having radial curved lines equal in number to and curved in a direction opposite to the curvature of the lines 011 the first disk, and the respective lines having the successive designations of the diiferent phases of life indicated on the first disk; each of the lines of one disk intersecting lines on the other disk; and radially arranged compositions in the spaces between the lines of the first disk based on the phases of life designated on the disks for the purpose specified.

6. A fortune telling device comprising a disk having radial divisional lines adjacent the periphery to provide a plurality of spaces having successive designations of different phases of life, and radially arranged curved lines equal in number to the radial divisional lines extending from said radial lines to about the axis of the disk with designations on said lines corresponding to the designations of the phases of life indicated in the peripheral spaces of the disk, said disk also having radially arranged compositions between said lines, based on the phases of life designated on the respective lines; a rotatable transparent disk of less diameter than the first disk and superposed thereon, said transparent disk having radially arranged curved lines equal in number to the radial curved lines on the first disk but phases of life; a transparent disk rotatably supportedsuperposed 'on the first disk also having radially arranged curved lines designative of the different phases of life indicated onthe first disk and to be read. in connection therewith; and means to rotate one of said disks relative to the other for the purpose specified.

8. A fortune telling device comprising a rotatably supporteddisk having radially arranged curved lines designativeof different phases of life; a transparent disk rotatably supported superposed on the first disk also having radially arranged curved lines designative of the different phases of life indi cated on the first disk and to be read in connection therewith; means to rotate one of said disks, and means operative from the rotation of the one disk to rotate the other disk in an opposite direction for the purpose specified.

, 9. A fortune telling device comprising a ,rotatably supported disk; a transparent disk; a shaft to Which the latter disk is fixed rotatably supported in the first disk; a knob fixed to the shaft to rotate said shaft and the connected disk; and a train of gearing to naon es operatively connect the respective disks to transmit rotary movement to the disks in opposite directions for the purpose specified.

10. A fortune telling device comprising a disk having radially arranged curved lines with designations of different phases of life and compositions based on such designations; a transparent disk of less diameter and superposed on the first disk also having 1 the respective lines on either disk will cross lines on the other disk, and each of the lines on the respective disks having a designation of a phase of life, and one disk having compositions thereon in the spaces between the respective lines based on the designations of the phases of life for the purpose specified.
